With the Kangaroos due to visit soon, wouldn't it be great to see crowds like this or bigger. Just under 31k at the iconic Station Road, Swinton in 1963.

the days before sport lost its soul - download an app and after hours of frustration be confined to a plastic seat for 2 hours if you havent lost interest by then - great picture of better days mate - thanks

Looks like the Australians are performing some sort of Aussie haka.

Nice photo, looks great. I'm sure we'll get crowds bigger than that, stadiums permitting.

I think with the huge gap between the last ashes series held on English soil and this current England side being strong and very talented will see the  RFL pick 3 inspired choices of venues with the English RL fans flocking to them.

Really?

Yes. I can't remember when they stopped doing it. I saw them do it at Featherstone in 73. They did it facing the crowd, not the opposition.

Better days?  Why?  Were you much happier then?

Seems bizarre but the majority of the kiwis team around the same time would have been white of European ancestry as well.

They were. Here's the Kangaroos doing the war cry at Wilderspool.

I don't want to over do it, but here is Terry Ramshaw scoring for Featherstone at a packed POR on a Wednesday afternoon in 1959. The Rovers won, and repated the feat against the 1963 tourists.

Even when the world is healthier and wealthier, some people just don't like change.

Jonathon Davies into the corner.. what a turn of pace

I was sat at the corner where Shaun Edwards was sent off. He spent a while standing in front of us and he got a load of abuse about how he had just cost us the game.

Exactly, the “good old days” always annoys me tbh.  It’s utter nonsense, be happy where you are now.

Third Test 1978.  Me (14 years old), my cousin (13) caught the bus into Cas, then onto Leeds bus station and then found the bus for Headingley.  Big crowd, big adventure for us including managing to find our way home.

Shame about the result but we were chuffed to find out that a lot of mates at school had seen us on TV as in those days you could walk along the side of the pitch in front of the South Stand during play.

My first ever test match.. 1978 GB v Australia at Central Park..

I remember it vividly.

Bus with schoolfriends....stood behind the posts at the clubhouse end.

It was a really good, close game.

GB went ahead well into the 2nd half with a John Bevan kick and chase try scored at our end, but the Aussies scored pretty much immediately to regain the lead.

Main memories were how Ray Price stared at the posts, arms in the air, with his back to the kicker when Fairbairn was kicking a penalty.

Also a full fist fight between Steve Nash and Tommy Raudonikis both getting sent off.

One of my best ever childhood RL memories.
