Terrible news. Puts everything else rugby related well and truly back into perspective.

RIP and bless his family with the strength to cope with their sad loss.

Terribly sad news, once I heard he had such young twins it really cracked me up. Condolences to all who knew him.

Well known and liked in the Halifax area having come through the grades at Ovenden and then joined Fax. I am sure Phil will confirm this. Very hard to understand this especially at that age. RIP Danny. Not sure this the time, but one of the Halifax Directors runs a Charity called Heartbeat of Sport dealing with testing of players and reducing the risk of Sudden Cardiac Arrest- http://www.heartbeatofsport.org/Maybe all our players should be having regular tests and all clubs having Defibrilators and what to do in such a situation

Absolutely Si, a real nice lad and a talented player.

Well respected in the Halifax area and throughout the game

My deepest sympathy and condolences to his wife & young family, his wider family & friends and thoughts with all those who have worked & played with him and everyone affected.

I know that every club and fan at every level will want to be arrange tributes & collections to help towards supporting his family, and RL Cares are already doing so. I think they, or some official body needs to help co-ordinate one site to give online, and help the clubs pull this together.

Still can't get my head around this news. I was really hoping the tweets last night pre-official announcement were wrong and he would pull through. Desperately sad made even more tragic by the fact he leaves behind 5 month old twins. I can't even begin to imagine what his wife is going through. Thoughts also to the rest of his family of course. One thing we can say with certainty though is that they won't be forgotten and left to deal with this loss on their own, I'm sure they'll get all the emotional and financial support they need from Rugby League. I hope we see a fair few bucket collections around at games over the next few weeks.

Such a loss.

A fund page has been set up for funeral costs here: http://gogetfunding.com/project/danny-jones-fund#

Has it been authenticated by Cougars or any official body? I don't doubt it's a genuine fund page, just that it will generate much more funding if it has been.

Sorry, don't know.  I just assumed it was genuine as its been bouncing around twitter / Facebook for the last few hours. Quite a few have donated so far.

It's an easy kick for the lad but, as we say in Rugby League, there's no easy kicks.

I know, I've seen it too, and I think I have found the originator on twitter and asked them, but no reply as yet. LIke I said, I do believe it is a genuine site, but feel it needs official backing.

My team were battered yesterday, I was fuming, frustrated, angry etc. Then I saw this tragic news, and none of it mattered anymore. Upsetting to see he left behind such a young family who will never know their dad. RIP Danny Jones.

Haven't really been online, so only just reading this. Shocking and heartbreaking.

Rest in peace.

Just going to donate now too, nice that people are supporting where they can.

Over £6,000 on the justgiving site & just shy of £3000 on the gogetfunding site. And all this is just a few hours.  Excellent support from the rugby league family.

Dreadful news. And with a young family too.  It's hard to take in, a young man, a fit athlete, gone just like that. Gutted!

This shows the sport at its best. Let's be more pioneering in checking players before-half time-after match and training. Let's make it a thing of the past. It is always going to be a physical sport

I've had Radio 4 on all morning, and Danny's death has been well reported.

Hopefully some of those listeners who don't normally search for RL-related things on the internet will stumble upon a link to the fundraising site and give a little.
