The logo itself is quite good, but why the need to change? The RLWC logo used for last two tournaments was good and was providing consistency which in RL is a rare thing.

Fine by me; I think it's a good design.

And just imagine the bitching and whining we'd have on here about the cheapskate, low-rent attitude of everyone involved (and certain people called Nigel who probably weren't actually involved) in the decision if they'd stuck with the same, outdated old look from the previous RWC.

Not a fan of the new logo really, but it's not bad..  as Dave T said Football tournaments have new logos for each event and its generally something you can use as a positive if you plan well, and to be honest the new logo isn't too much of a departure from the previous one.

Someone is obviously doing something two years before the actual event, so lets be thankful for that.

I like it. The video has got me fired up!!!

Can I take it that we now have confirmed dates, given the countdown clock and that it will last 5 weeks (6 week ends? 3 rounds of group games, 1/4s, semis and final)? October 28th start, finishing 2nd December I reckon...

Epic does not come close.

Which (coincidentally) is exactly 2 years to the day from when the website went live

Giving it more thought, and after reading the background to it, I really like it. Freshening things up and giving each World Cup a brand and identity is good and I like how the logo represents the trophy as well as the three host nations.

Consistency is nice, but tbh as most World Cups will be hosted in Aus and England, giving them unique branding is a way of keeping things fresher.

And the Olympics.  It changes every time.  Didn't like that 5 ring design they had last time.

The International Olympic Commission rings stay the same, but each Games has their own logo. London's was awful. Rio's is okay.

Although the old logo was established and did not look dated, the new one is much brighter plus has cultural logic behind it - I like it. A good start with the website so far in advance, hopefully they keep updaing it with news. Am also pleased that Grubber and Steed appear to have been consigned to history so with luck there will be no more daft bee-chasing cartoons.

Everybody hated London's, but strangely it worked. It became iconic and instantly recognisable, whereas many of the logos are forgettable and not used so much.

I still hate that logo, although pretty much everything else about the 2012 Games was brilliant.

There is a superb article on NRL.com about the launch. The logo was a joint effort from the 3 co hosts, to reflect culture, colour and ethos, apparently. If I could do links I would post one to it here.

I cannot claim to be an expert on sports administration, but, in addition to Wood and Collier (both with much to commend them), the Aussies have appointed Peponis, the one time saviour of the Bulldogs and a seriously impressive man, and Andrew Fraser, who looks very well connected.

I like everything I have seen and read about the event - the sky's the limit if we get this right.

Optimism about the RWC... positivity about people in charge... you're trying to get banned from this forum aren't you? ;)

The key to getting this right was always going to start with employing the right people to run it (See 2013 and Sally Bolton). This has been done and now it comes down to getting the venues bolted on as quickly as, so those that wish to travel to the event can get planning, whilst local communities can start to "buy into the world class event" happening in their town. It would be good now that we have the draw now, with the 4 remaining teams entered as TBC.....as I can't imagine many will travel from these countries anyway.

PNG will sell out their three games with ease and the Big 3 should draw decent crowds, but it's how they promote the "minnows" clashes that will determine the success of the comp on the ground. I'm not sure of where in Australia there is the highest concentration of Pacific Islanders, but the North of the North Island here is teeming with Tongan, Samoan and Fijian communities. The South Island here is sometimes more Scottish than Scotland, so I'd live to see them based down there...if Ireland make it, then 30% of Australians can lay claim to Irish Heritage, so play that card...if Wales make it they'll be spoilt for choice between Aus and NZ as both countries have plenty of sheep. ;)

Based on Wales, Ireland and Italy making it.....

Perth/Melbourne Group

Australia, England, France, Italy

Sydney Group

Ireland, Lebanon, USA/Canada

Queensland/PNG Group

PNG, Tonga, Wales

New Zeland Group

Kiwis, Scotland, Fiji, Samoa

Opening game 3pm Perth Australia v England (5pm brisbane/6pm sydney/8pm NZ)..Australia then play 2 games in Melbourne, England one more in Perth one in Melbourne.

I'd do 2 Quarter Final double headers, one in Lang and one in Wellington, Semi-finals Sydney and Auckland and final in Brisbane!
