We just watched 'Laurence of Arabia', which was on TV this afternoon. A great film, and the restored version absolutely wipes the floor with the DVD I bought years ago.

And demonstrates the light and colour exactly as Lean intended.   I think it has a running time of 3 hours and 45 minutes, but at no point do you get bored.   If they played it at the Odeon on their classic weekends though, I'd miss a lot of it through pee breaks.

Loved the new Wallace and Gromit film.

I want spoil it but it’s the attention to detail on the little things that really elevates it for me as a series.

The boundary signs between Yorkshire and Lancashire being a good example

”Yorkshire - Keep out”

”Lancashire - No, You Keep Out”

Haha reminded me of the boundary near the tops that was “Lancashire - where everybody matters” always defaced to “Lancashire - where everybody mutters”

😉😃

Watched it this afternoon, excellent is an understatement.

Little background pieces add so much, like 'Cleggy's' hat and coat hung on the rack by Wallice's door.

I'm a member of the Wallace & Gromit fan club and many of us members are even going so far as to say Vengeance Most Fowl is the best W&G film to date.

A lot of members have already watched it half a dozen times and every time they are still spotting new little hidden details and references. The attention to detail of all Aardman films is incredible but this one is particularly detailed in that respect. Unbelievable film. A true masterpiece.

You do know that W&G live in Wigan, "62 West Wallaby Street, Wigan" from the wrong trousers.

Not sure, but when you look across from the footpath, it appears there are previous fixings for a rail.    Maybe they took the iron during the war and didn’t replace it, but it’s a surprising omission in this age of health and safety.

It certainly is by Christ

If they are showing it properly, there is an intermission, with music written for that very purpose.

The scene where Lawrence and Sherif Ali first meet at the well required a custom-made lens that hasn't been used since.

I am a very proud Yorkshireman but I am also a very proud Northerner and despite the rivalry between Yorkshire and Lancashire, we are brothers and we stand together in our resistance of the Southern oppressors! 👊 ✊️

Would you stand alongside the Southerners if faced with the French though?

But the bills Wallace gets in the post have 'WG7' on.   Assuming this is a play on the real postcode of 'WN7', then that would be Leigh wouldn't it?   So the Wigan bit could just be a mistaken assumption by Southern-based utility companies, with the real location based on the east side of the flash?

Ah, memories of being allowed to stay up and watch 'V' when I was only about 5 years old.   Classic.

Probably not for everyone but I absolutely loved it. Kneecap. Like The Commitments in that it captures that frenetic youthful energy that comes with discovering music and is unapologetically from a working class perspective. Not like The Commitments in that it's very pro drugs and political.

In a bit of a coincidence, the film I watched before this was also a controversial one about the Troubles. But from a century before. The Informer, one of the last great films of the silent era. Highly recommended if you get chance.

Heavier Trip. The sequel to 2018’s Heavy Trip, which was like a deadpan Finnish take on Spinal Tap.

The sequel is not quite as good as the original, but still enjoyable. There's a sub-plot about a musical purist/snob being tempted from his One True Path that is quite adorable.

The Fall Guy. I don't remember being a massive fan of the TV series back in the day and don't know how close the film version is to it. It's a bit of a mess, although it did have the odd amusing comedic moment. The performances of the lead actors, Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, are just odd. I was a bit surprised that it received decent reviews, although it does appear that didn't save it in the court of public opinion.

The Banshees of Inishherin

1923 on an island off the coast of Ireland , very funny film....even the animals are good actors , stealing a couple of scenes , tragic too without giving too much away for those who have yet to see it. 10 out of 10.

Following a 1944 German comedy with a 1937 German comedy. Neither of which could have been made without the express approval of the Nazi party, both of which feature leading men who were married to Jews at the time the films were made.

Both quite funny too.

The Punch Bowl (1944) and The Man Who Was Sherlock Holmes (1937) are the films. Both available in full and for free on YouTube and the Internet Archive.

Watched kneecap the other night, and agree, it was excellent. Very silly and it tailed off a touch, but a lot of fun. Have enjoyed listening to their music on Spotify this week too.
