I've been doing yoga for years...in many cases I was the only male in various classes...if I had only known in my younger years that this was the best place to pick up women!!!!

In some of the bigger classes there are 100 plus women and around 3 or 4 men. I’m some of the smaller classes I’m the only guy.

Did The Lap ultramarathon with the wife at the weekend - 47 (glorious) miles around Lake Windermere in some pretty warm temperatures. Managed to get her round in 16hrs 30mins (moving time of around 14hrs). She’s now absolutely broken lol…

15kg (33 pounds) down since the start of the year. It’s harder to lose it now but it’s still coming off slowly.

I love the feeling of walking up hills now. It feels so much easier.

Been back on it since June.  The weight hit 179 (Kgs not lbs...).  14 Kgs lost in 14 weeks, so going OK so far.

Have to confess I've lost my 'natty' card and I'm chemically assisted.  Semaglutide works.  It's not a miracle, you need to diet and of course exercise helps, but it definitely has taken the edge off.

Will save the NHS millions.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Am now 20kg down and can see muscle definition and I’m starting to see the beginning of a six pack and inguinal crease.

I’ve been doing gym classes up to 6 times a week (usually no fewer than 4).

I look good, i feel good, I’m getting positive reinforcement from those around me.

I still eat a wide range of foods and enjoy pizzas etc when socialising but it’s all about moderation and eating super healthy most of the time, not all the time.

It’s great!

No idea about my weight at the minute and I'm not looking.

Finally had the ongoing tightness that begins around my hip looked at - in defiance of normal ranting, it was actually a locum doctor at my GP based on a telephone call who gave me the referral for an x-ray, something no one else had suggested because it always presented as 'straightforward'. Turns out there is *something* wrong with my right hip, not sure what yet. I have 3-4 weeks of exercises to follow after which the relevant nurse at the GP will phone again and it's likely the next stage will involve proper rummaging around.

The result of which is that I am not running very much at the minute - parkrun and maybe one other a week - and when I do I am a lot slower than before as the effort with the tightness is just exhausting and uncomfortable. I did, however, join a gym last week, feeling that doing the exercises would feel better if I did them in a 'proper' environment and that has turned out to be a lot more effective than I could have imagined. Basically going every day now and working on low impact cardio stuff with some (light) weight training as well.

I think previously I was incredibly self conscious in a gym whereas this is the budget one in town and I know that I am basically invisible to the muscle bros and gym bunnies - and anyone else there is likely to be, like me, just trying to put themselves right. I like that it is massively impersonal.

Do need to sort out diet and drinking. But feel like making progress after a long time of drifting.

Marathon training was going very well, until i found out that Fev will be winning the GF on the same day. I can't miss that so i'll be missing the marathon; my training and diet have regressed as a result.

I'm bored of the long runs and whilst i'd like to keep a base of running fitness, i want to move on. I've been looking at Hyrox as a blend of running and gym work which i really miss. A gym would be also be nice rather than traipsing about in the rain as well. There's a lovely gym close by, but it's still a 20 min drive so will have sort some logistics before i can mentally dive-in.

My experience with gyms tells me that most people there, regardless of how hugely muscular or athletic they are, don’t care at all if newbies attend.

They all started at the beginning and appreciate anyone putting in effort. Any annoying people are in the tiny minority. That’s my experience anyway.

Smaller classes with regulars are great as people get to know each other over time and start to chat before and after class.

Been a while since I've posted on here but I'm coming up on 4 years of keeping 70+lbs off.  2022 I gave in to the inside voice and stopped running due to the chronic pain, but got hacked off with myself and back into it in 2023.  Took me a good 6 months to get back to managing 5k runs and been doing a couple of them every week since June. Signed up for the Toronto Waterfront 5k on October 15th, the first race I've signed up for since pandemic times.  My head is telling me to do longer but 5k seems about my limit before I get physically ill with it.  Might be a mental thing though, I don't know, will have to test it more.

Bit the bullet and ordered an elliptical standup bike as regular cycling isn't an option for me.  Looking forward to the lower impact workouts and going further than walking or running.

https://www.elliptigo.com/bike-family/#sec-elliptical-bikes

Not sure if anyone else here has been doing them, but I've been doing several of the Conqueror Challenges to keep active and motivated, perhaps if others here are open to the idea we could have a forums team challenge for one of the longer ones?  3 of us did the long Lord of the Rings challenge in just shy of 6 months, over 2000km.  Neat things to keep you moving!

Keep cracking on folks! 🙂

Signed up to an Hyrox event in Glasgow, early March.

I stopped running at least a few weeks ago and now i've got Covid. Even the 1km runs feel impossible mentally at this point.

This too shall pass.

Parts of Hyrox look fun.  Other parts look horrible!  It's a great concept.

How is close by 20 minutes??

My gym is a 5 min walk.....if it wasn't it would affect if I went or not!

Finished the Lakes in a Day ultra a couple of weeks ago. Strong winds meant diversions added another 6 miles onto the 50-mile route. Not helpful when the first 30-miles had 4000m altitude gain (and descent). 🤮 Windermere had burst its banks too so had to wade through waist deep floods (at times) in the dark for about a mile. At 2200hrs, that was particularly rubbish… finished it though and did little training after the Lap in May. I never learn…

… so on that last point, signed up to the Spine Challenger North next June. 160 miles…. Doh! 😳

I often run the very first section from Hardraw to Keld over great shunner fell. Can be amazing views or a trudge through bog and cloud, depending on the weather.

Crikey.

I tried the Hyrox Physical Fitness test this afternoon. Woof, it's very different to marathon training and i've forgotten how hard burpees are.

A lot of hard work ahead.

Cries.

The wall balls at the end look...challenging....

I found the wall balls ok. I think.

The burpees though.. wow. I think i'll be buying in and out of every workout with them for the foreseeable future. A gentle swim and a sauna today though.. 🙂

Did the Toronto Waterfront 5k the other week in the quickest time I've run one in the 20-odd years since getting crunched.  31:16.  Me and another bloke by himself unspeakingly vied for a lead all through it, he took off in the last 500m and though my head wanted to go with him the body wouldn't lol.

Was still really happy with it though, even when paying for it for a few days, certainly opened the mind to new possibility and where limits truly are.  Quite the time processing what happened this last week or so, in the best way!

18.5kgs lost now.  Last couple of weeks have been iffy, definitely not been putting the effort in.

Can't complain about 18.5! but the big picture is I've gone from very obese to slightly less very obese 🤣

I've been dipping in and out of watching the backyard ultra world championship today - they're currently into the 107th hour and have run around 430 miles at this point, with only two contestants remaining.

On Youtube. Unfortunately, I missed the winning lap by going to bed at midnight. One of the competitors, Ihor, quit on the 108th lap, and Harvey Lewis completed it, for a total of 450 miles, to become the winner (and new world record holder).
