Pubs & Bars around Anfield

Recommended Posts

There’s a small fan park next to Anfield that’s usually packed with bouncy castles, football games and food places. I’d imagine this is what they will use as a fan park. As for pubs there’s the Albert right outside and if you have your back to Anfield and are facing the Albert go left down the hill and there are loads of pubs down that street. If you go to the opposite end of the ground with you back to Anfield and go right down the hill there’s a few more there.

On match days the pubs round Anfield are fine

The Arkles is probably the biggest and best option - on the corner at the end opposite the Kop

There are a few smaller ones nearby but they are small and a pain getting served

Tbh would stay in town then taxi out drink inside then go back to town

There was a pub between the Kop and the main road where the buses drop off where it seemed like it would take an age to get served but they had it off to a tee and only waited a minute or two. And that was probably half an hour before kick off at the Aus v NZ game.

I'm hoping there'll be something set up in Stanley park?

Don't think there are much around Anfield, the Arkles will probably be favourite

I was thinking of a fan park. We'll head into town and make our way back to anfield albeit jelly legged ?

I know some of the Anfield area, & a few of the pubs/bars, those who haven't been, the one behind the Kop is The Albert, The Park is over the road, further down Walton Breck Road as you head away with Anfield stadium behind you, on your right there's The Twelfth Man, & 5/10 minutes walk, a pub now called The Glenbuck Hotel[used to be the Stanley].

The other direction from the Kop on Oakfield Road there's The Sandon, near the Anfield Road stand there''s The Arkles[on the corner Utting Avenue/Anfield Road] further down Anfield Road, on the junction of Walton Breck Road there's the Flat Iron[basically walk down Anfield Road with The Arkles on your left], i wouldn't want to be going further than this

Buses Stagecoach 17 & Arriva 26/27 go past Anfield Stadium, don't know if Stagecoach 917 is operating, this normally stops St John's Lane & goes direct to Anfield, normally picks up by the Glenbuck Hotel going back to the City Centre, Arrive/Stagecoach own tickets are not valid on the other service

17 starts in Lord Street, calls at Queen Square, 26/27 Liverpool One bus station, also stops in Lord Street but not Queen Square

Be wary, there's a Rock & Roll Marathon event on over the weekend,  on Saturday it's mostly the docks & south side, but Sunday is the main marathon which is going through Stanley Park so expect some disruption until about 1pm, 26/27 is still serving Liverpool One then on diversion, 17 will go from London Road

Another thing, one of the best boozers in Liverpool City Centre is a pub called the Ship & Mitre top end of Dale Street by the Birkenhead Tunnel, , think the microbrewery is no more, not sure though, but they have there own real ales, & beers & plenty of them on draught, ideal boozer to start the pub crawl when you get back from Anfield.

For those heading back into Liverpool the Baltic market is a good place to go for a bit of something to eat and a few drinks. Still down that end Camp and Furnace for a Sunday dinner if you can get in.

I'll vouch for the Ship & Mitre, on the basis of a pleasant visit last year. It seems they still have a great selection of ales.
