Jermaine McGillvary takes aim at those running the game

So you want licencing / Franchises ?

That's what he said.

The issue is that there are a (low) finite number of full time clubs and not that many viable part time ones. There is plausibly 10 viable professional clubs.  Vast investment is needed to support that.

The second tier and below is totally wrong headedly organised.  At best it should be open (amateur with a limited number of paid players) and regional.

And no relegation. Expansion comes with clubs who can develop players... and have investment.

The game, the wider game has never come to terms with (amazingly) professionalism.  The Challenge Cup had become an anachronism... the opportunity for all, in the day of part timers and Wintergreen, had long gone.

So you think 10 pro clubs and the rest essentially amateur will see the sport grow ? 😂

There is a level between pro and amateur - Hull FC are considering it at the moment

Hull F.C have never won the right to be in Super League they got in by default by merging with Gateshead. At least KR have survived the dreaded yo yo effect and now look to be an established S.L team.Huddersfield also don't deserve to be  in the Super Duper League as they only got in through the merger with Eagles. They were a very moderate side before that.More money needs to be invested in schools and the Amateur game to produce more players and supporters. Each pro team should have two players doing the schools in the district so that would cover say at least 24 schools twice a week.No coaching though explain the rules to the kids go through the basic skills ie .passing, tackling, and catching the ball let them have time to develop and players will come through but please don't push them.Over coaching loses more young players from the game than letting them find their own level.

Yep. That should sort out the game.

A great blueprint for the future of the sport... How long did it take you to think that up?? 🤨

(I highlighted that bit because the rest of it seems to be a rant about Hull FC being worse than Hull KR)

The reason why players' voices are important is because they play week-to-week and also have to adapt to the structure that is given to them?

  • Are players in the UK on more money than 5 years ago?
  • Is their profile higher?
  • Do they play in more big occasions?
  • Has the club they play for grown or shrunk in ambition?

I think we all know that the answers are:

  • Probably not
  • No
  • No
  • Most likely shrunk in ambition

This decline theme is a bit of a myth playing wise but

"I've heard Australia and New Zealand may not come across and you can't have a tournament without those two."

And if they don't there may not be a Rubgy League for them to come over to.

I dont think they will lose any sleep over that. When was the last time we won the Ashes, or the world cup, or the tri/4 nations?

If they're not bothered, then they should sign up to Union. They'd be welcome with open arms. They'd go fro strength to strength internationally and they'd be part of the establishment  make up. World wide recognition and I've no doubt they would overtake the NZ as the iconic brand. What's not to love. And far better than being top shark in  a small pool where you have no respect for the other fish.

Off you Aussies!

It's a certain kind of exceptionalism to believe that 'rugby league' will die if it stops being played seriously in England.

You might as well believe cricket will die if England doesn't play it.

For India in cricket see Australia in rugby league.

I have genuine concerns for rugby league in this country. There are issues down under but the actual survival of the game isn't one of them.

Apart from Hull winning the 1998 division 1 championship which was a promotion place and Huddersfield winning the 2002 NFP Grand final which was also a promotion place you're nearly right.

What would you spend it on ?

All the stuff we cannot spend it on now.

But how much do you think it would cost to expand and sustain a new viable SL club?

Clearly the Wolfpack did not have anything like enough, despite all the talk.

No a phone. It works just like a computer and you can hold it in your hand.

I'd advise against using a phone while mowing the lawn , you'll end up with a few toes missing or electrocute yourself
