Proud Cumbrian...Kyle Amor aftermatch v Jamacia

This game has been ignored outside Cumbria.

Not even its own thread on here😉

Put on at short notice everyone involved needs a big pat on the back.

Local TV covered the Reggae Warriors at the West Cumbria Academy school coaching the kids and doing a Q&A session.

A "meet the players" night took place in a well known resteraunt (with a Carrabian theme).

Pre game an under 13 and a Masters game entertained the crowd then Cumbria again put on a good display.

I listened here in the Netherlands via Radio Cumbria.

On a cold wet night the crowd was estimated around the 4,000 mark.

Eleven years since the last game...hopefully the RFL will not leave it another Eleven years before giving Cumbria more games.

PS.

Let's not talk about a pie in the Sky Super League club but the county deserves more representative games.

Then again Cumbria beating Scotland,Ireland or Wales may not be the image the RFL would like.

Great story, sure it will bring up the same old questions, a merged Cumbrian team!

Which would only realistically work as a west Cumbrian ie Cumberland team.

Cumbria is being abolished next year anyway.

Cumbria, as a name for the area, dates back to the 6th-7th century. It predates any English county.

It will be back.

Cumbria clubs aren't in a position to be put in super league even if they merged. They need to keep growing to even have a chance.

The thing the RFL need to do is ensure there is still enough investment going into the semi pro clubs and amateur clubs to keep churning out talent. There is currently 10 - 20 excellent amateur clubs in Cumbria run by great people which results in international talent being produced. This needs to continue.

Makes it easier then, Whitehaven and workington merge to Form Cumberland. Both only get around 2k average between the, if a merged club can get 3-4k and an up to date stadium then a New Grade A franchise is in reach within 4-5 years hopefully a new club  new identity can keep locally produced  players in the area and compete, that may attract 6-8k average which is very achievable.

Nows the time to do it with the new county.

Cumbria council is being abolished.

It will remain as a ceremonial county (for lieutenacy and shrieval purposes) and will still be used for police and fire authorities.

Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cumbria and Midlands county teams that need to play in a competition similar to the state of origin.

It's been shown time and again that Cumbria is a team that players want to play for and that represents a real test for touring sides (and even England).

A mid season game against Scotland, Wales, England Knights (whoever) and being the warm up match for a touring side (or a game against another of Scotland, Wales, England Knights) would give Cumbria two decent sized matches of RL a season that are likely to be good fixtures and well attended. All whilst keeping RL in the public eye in the area.

Essex, Kent and Sussex were being used by then I think, as three of the seven kingdoms of the Heptarchy. And yes I am a massive sadsack.

Where would the stadium be though? If it was in one of the two towns I assume people in the other wouldn’t be interested?

How strong could a Cumbrian team be nowadays if all available players were selected. Could they compete with Lancashire and Yorkshire still.

If all were at full strength I wouldn't have thought so. Cumbria could put out a pretty competitive pack but they would still be using Championship players in the backs

Sorry, should have said Championship players in the backs
