Sorry to turn this into tourist info thread, but what's it like to drive to from the North?

Possible but driving straight there isnt best personally....straight off M1 and park in lovely Luton and train it! 😀

Actually Cockfosters probably best place in reality to park and tube

Cheers. Hopefully my mates driving, probably still easier and cheaper to drive all the way than paying £20 each for a 40 minute train journey each way.

I think you would be looking to pay half of that. Watford is 15 mins as well.

Driving into central london and trying to park nearby would probably be as much and a right pain/time consuming.

Train line just told me £20 and 40 minutes each way. It was a quick search mind.

I have no doubt your search was accurate - but I come in 50 mins to London and would expect to pay £13 return - £16 without Network Card.

Yeah, not only 4 games at Wire for example, but 3 round the corner at Saints. And three round the other corner at Leigh, plus a bonus one at Wigan, and then one just past there at Bolton. It's a lot, people are spoilt for choice.

They missed Halifax, fev. Dewsbury for the West Yorks fans.

Thanks. I've stayed out at Watford before and travelled in, so it may be a good option!

I stayed in Watford once too, strange place. I wouldn't be inclined to stay again 😂

Can I just confirm that these figures aren't coming purely from Mick Gledhill?

Aaron Bower quoted the semi final also

I've only seen the 55k from Gledhill, but maybe somebody else has seen that from elsewhere?

"England's game with France in Bolton on Saturday is almost sold out, but so far only 6,000 tickets have been sold to see New Zealand, the world's number one-ranked team, face Jamaica in Hull on the same day.

Organisers hope the attendance will pass 10,000 as tickets are still available for adults at £25 and children at £15 for children, although they are in the corners of the stadium."

On the plus side - that is 1,500 shifted since the tournament started. I seem to remember 4,500 being quoted.

How the hell is this tournament struggling to break even?

Yeah - that doesn't add up with earlier comments does it. £1m profit was quoted.

It’s a justification of the high prices. Spin as Dave T would say.

Worrying things in that article. To go from a £4m profit with cheap tickets and now be struggling to break even with hugely increased prices and £15m of costs covered is very worrying.

I hope they are being economical with the truth and we are doing what the likes of RU do and have a fee to the world body, I. E. Guaranteed profit for them.

It's interesting that Dutton just keeps justifying the price and saying it is right. That's fine - but if you are right, it suggests something else is wrong. Just keeping insisting you are not wrong is doing nothing to fill grounds, and demonstrates the lack of flexibility that has probably got us to where we are.

And claiming your prices are in line with SL when you're charging £70 for seats at Saints that are £31 for a SL game is misleading.

It was KX I was looking at, I'd seen that recommended, and that was where the 40 came from....

I forget if they go into Euston or KX.

They are practically next to each other anyway - whichever one is the terminal.

I've said this a few times now but it just doesn't stack up. Covid or not this tournament should be at least breakeven, due to the Government funding, before a ball has even been kicked.

We kept being told we had record commercial sales and we certainly have had the highest prices ever. Attendances should be similar to 2013. We should be multiples of the 2013 £4 million profit. If not serious questions need to be asked.

He does hint that they are doing things short of outright discounting to make the games more affordable (or 'accessible' is the word used which is a bit vague.) So it sounds like they're not in complete denial, but whether whatever they're doing provides any meaningful uplift we'll have to wait and see. It could well be just tinkering at the edges and crossing fingers we smash the knockouts. I think that might be fair enough.

The claim, however, that pricing is on a par with SL games is absolute bobbins.

I keep trying to understand the break even comment. Both Dutton and Hogan seem to have said that people need to buy the £70 tickets to compensate for the loss made on £25 tickets. Are they saying that every single seat in every ground needs to be sold at an average of £40 to break even? If not, what do they mean?

Well, the sponsorship situation seems a bit weird. Apparently we had record sponsorship and had pretty much sold out, yet we have a really limited number of companies on the advertisements. I recall in 2013 we had a hell of a lot of sponsors even from Down Under taking board spaces.

Pepsi Max are meant to be a sponsor, yet they are nowhere to be seen in or out of the ground. The video ref screen last night had new graphics that replaced the cazoo stuff. Many of the sponsors do appear to be service providers. We don't have stuff like beer providers etc.

I worry that this is all a sham.
