Derek has a big article about the club in national media, a RL fan had seen it and commented. Are you advocating we have one thread per club that everything is posted on throughout the season or longer?

More great PR from the Leopards as we build to 2023 - must be applauded by all RL fans, surely

That's what the mods asked for as every thread on this topic was getting locked. They specifically said they would leave one open with less moderaton. Similar to what Leigh fans wanted with Toronto. You know that though.

"Derek Beaumont Said" just about scans.

But I don't thing he'd be any good at "Come On Eileen" but I'm always prepared to be amazed.

I don't mind much of what he is saying. He's been bold and made big changes instead of just trundling back into SL and doing the same thing and getting the same results. Which is what we have been critical of others for doing.

The big BUT here is just around the quality of actual delivery. It's all a bit amateur, and things like not having a website is schoolboy stuff.

It's all on him now, if the off-field results are markedly better next season then he can say 'I told you so' - that's the good thing, he's put his money where his mouth is, let's see if he can deliver.

Even if there may be an element of some wanting them to fail, I suggest that there is a lot of interest in seeing what they do next year.

It's not how I'd do business, but we'll know quite soon whether people have bought into it.

I think a forum is for expressing the fact that no one ever does it like we would.

The point about the website holds water though I think quite a few clubs could do far more in that direction and I think there's a definite trend towards websites becoming a bit redundant.

WhAtever you think of DB this name change has generated a lot of publicity and a lot of it outside of usual RL circles

As they there is no such thing as bad publicity so hopefully it will pay

As said above though success is all about results. If Leigh start badly the name change is just another stick to beat them with

This isn't what people say though, at least not marketing professionals.

There is a balance to be struck between brand equity and brand awareness. Everyone knowing who you are but thinking your brand is low quality and unserious is not an overall plus point.

Marketing Professionals !! All marketing professionals should be paid on results, after a while you will know who the”professionals” are, ie the ones with the results which will be 1/4 at best

Yes, Beaumont's "we've had enough of experts" approach is all too evident.

When you are in peak selling period, not having a proper online presence is bizarre. They could get away with trying to use social channels, but even their Facebook page is still called Leigh Centurions.

That isn't good under any kind of measure and is not a reflection of any kind of trend in the slightest.

As per my earlier post, we'll see pretty quickly whether DB's approach is better than tried and tested approaches.

If it is working as he says it is then fair enough, he alone as the present custodian of the club has taken the gamble, would he still be there if it had blown up in his face by the people who matter I don't know, those who matter being those who support the club, everyone else is just simply insignificant in this matter and their comments carry no weight whatsoever.

I can live with the Leopards brand it is no more stupid than a Rhino, Tiger, Panther etc, but that shirt is were this lifelong fan of the club will draw the line, I have an array of Cherry and White Hooped (hoops Derek, not Stripes) Shirts in wardrobe which have been worn with pride and will continue to do so - with exception to when we play that lot from down the road so as to avoid any confusion, my pride being a replica with just the town crest no sponsers logos and I suspect that we will still see a number of 'past' shirts on the terraces and in the stands as not everyone can afford to just ditch them. I will still get my season ticket and be involved as much as ever in the games making the big hits and feeling the hard tackles albeit from the safety of North Stand as I have always done irrespective of what the players are running about in, I am immensely looking forward to an interesting season and hopefully we can maintain SL status I know that will upset a few if we do so and that will in itself be very pleasurable.

Gonna be interesting for you H

A lot more so than the last time anyway

Think you'll be about 7,8 or 9th spot personally

Sorry to urinate on your chips but Derek has gone the other way with a mktg man joining the board, my personal experience of Marketing Gurus is that they are full of bullpooh and allergic to results orientated pay. Give me a salesman any day

That's cos many mix sales and marketing.

Marketing = shining a light on the door and then unlocking it.

Sales= dragging the customer through it.

Clubs need to get the message out there and generate leads (marketing) and then sell the product, get the orders (sales,)

With low value items like shirts and season tickets, you need channel sales to get the volume, which pushes you back more towards marketing.

Having worked in both roles for the two market leaders (US corporations) in my sector, these roles carried performance-related pay....with the ultimate sanction of being freed from the tyranny of gainful employment with them. 😃

The problem Leigh have is that whatever they do their marketing draw is limited by geography

Go north and you hit Wigan. Go west and get to the M6/ M62/ East Lancs and you hit Warrington and Saints. Go East hit Salford. Take the only option and go south and hit the Ship Canal

And the other problem that they have is the fact that barely anyone outside of Rugby League has ever heard of Leigh.

They’ve drafted in child labour to cope with demand 😜
