Injuries updates.....

I don't know if anyone from the club reads this forum ( I would like to think they do) and all joking apart about the " back in a couple of weeks" rubbish that we keep getting fed. Is there any chance we could actually get a proper update about ALL the injured players and estimates for return to play. I know it's impossible to be absolutely accurate with these things but the state of the squad and the dire performances we are putting out it would be nice to get some honesty.

How's double P coming along? Fitz? Dee? Bailey? Levi? Hingano yet again?

You won't get that from Hendo and he explains why in most of the interviews he does with BBC RY.

I can fully understand why Hendo doesn't want to give out the info and equally, as a supporter, it's frustrating not knowing when players will be back. It will be what it will be though. I always find it very interesting listening to interviews with Hendo. I think you almost need to listen to what he's "not saying", if you get what I mean, to really understand what he's saying. A good example of what I mean was in yesterdays post match interview with Andy, where he said players need to look at themselves regarding  repeating the same mistakes defensively. I think Hendo is sussing a few out and maybe running out of patience.

I guess HKR wanted him to have game time, but he seems to have dropped down the rankings at York. Seemed a decent, tough kid with a good hand off. Hope he continues to develop and good luck to him. Maybe we’ll get to see our original centre of Dee play there this season (not that he’s set the world alight when he’s played), or even Edwards?

With the onset of social media it has sent everyone barking mad intimidating, paranoia, and the need to know everything every minute of the day. In the sixties when I first started watching Fev we didn't know who was playing on any given day until we bought that programme when we entered the ground and even then you had to cross out eight or nine names across the two teams. You wouldn't be able to type out your feelings on here for instance. You would just have a little moan to your mate. We have an anxiety nowadays to know when our favourite players will be fit to play or not. Could you imagine anyone phoning their club up every two hours or so to determine the fitness of each individual. They would have to employ hundreds of receptionists. 😆 I wonder if Kheirallah will be fit to play against you in the bash? 😆 I' m just popping off to phone Sean Long up and find out😯

Think you missed my point, take double P, ACL last August, 9 months generally so should be somewhere nearing a return all being well. Heard nothing since the injury, I heard a whisper last week that he won't play all season, is that true? I can't imagine opposition teams are setting up their systems in case he rocks up Sunday so why not let us know what stage he is at, same with Dee, Levi, Fitz. Would just be nice to know how they are doing, I'm not asking to attend their next doctor's appointment but the media thing works both ways and as  paying supporters we do in some way pay the players wages so personally I think a bit better communication is not too much to ask.

As far as Pauli goes I think something else happened from what I can gather and as for the others I don't think they know when they will be fit which is why Hendo won't be drawn on the subject. What is wrong is when whoever it is who speaks to the media say they are two weeks away when in fact they don't know. It is a hard one as invariably the club are given a timeframe from the specialists or physios but that doesn't taker into account if they break down in training. Just look at Hingano, on the face of it he appears fit to return but only lasted 1 1/2 games. Far better if they say they will be back when fit and not give any timeframe, there are no expectations then from the fans or anyone else.

I wasn't getting at you Nige or any of your supporters. I was just suggesting how the internet and social media had changed our lives and traditions in just a short time. It's made us ultra aware of everything that's happening and we all want to part of it. If it wasn't for social media for example you wouldn't even know the infamous Coolie😂😂😂

We didn’t to worry about who would be playing the late seventies when I started watching York as it seemed to be the same team every week.  Were the like of Dave Dinkerley,  Brendan White and co.  ever injured? They seemed to be ever present. Or is my  memory playing tricks?

I’m only kidding (apologies to Dave Dunkerley for the typo- didn’t have my glasses). Of course the game is faster, players much bigger and collisions harder (debatable if it’s more skilful mind). Good days though and fond memories.

I asked Brian Noble the same question a while ago and his opinion was the game is so much faster now combined with these modern pitches. But I agree, back then it was rare to hear about these acl injuries and the like, it was more broken nose, fingers etc and they just played on with them ! Some good servants to York mentioned there, along with Bob Clancy, Peter Phillippo, Gary Smith, the irrepressible Geoff Pryce, happy days.

I think we just got less detail about injuries in the old days. I can remember in the mid 1970s when Fev had one of the best teams in the league, we went for long spells without some of our best players such as Vince Farrar, Steve Nash, Keith Bridges and Jimmy Thompson, all world-class international players, and they were all simply labelled "knee" injuries - I'd be pretty sure they were all ACL injuries, but in those days you didn't get that level of detail.

I imagine that back then a lot of players played when they shouldn't as well. Very much the days of patch 'em up and send 'em back on no matter what.

In 1977 that Fev team played 6 games in 15 days, had 4 days off then played 3 more games in 8 days. Jimmy Thompson (prop) and Keith Bridges (hooker) started in every single one!
