I know what you're saying but they will have to at least try  something.  Appeal to the public of Whitehaven? More sponsors, firms and supporters, less wages on foreign players who seem to command more then UK players in some instances. Iam sure they will have a plan - won't they ?

I see we’re your coming from but my point is they never seem to learn. Little story for you. A few years ago Widnes were about to go under always had a soft spot for em. Came to barrow and had the buckets out for a collection so chucked £10 and said to a fair few of there fans hope it all works out for them. Following day chatting to a mate that was at a wedding Saturday night at a local hotel were the Widnes team we’re staying the night before the game. Would have taken my £10 back given the chance

Whitehaven RLFC interim CEO Les Messenger launched a plea to the club's fans to 'come to the aid of the club', saying that the club are in 'dire straits' following a period of lower footfall in the last season.

The club has said that the players haven't been paid contract money for July, which equates to a total of £14,000 between the players, with winning money for the game against Swinton Lions also not being paid out, and the board is now down to two members.

In a 24-minute message to fans posted on social media, Mr Messenger said: "On a financial footing we are behind the black ball. We are suffering from virtually five away games in July which meant we had no income coming in, and we had £1,000 roughly to find for buses to take the players to away games.

We had the one home game against Toulouse on a Saturday which had 331 fans through the gates, so the footfall was horrendous there, so it was virtually written off. It was like another away game."

He added: "I need you people, the good people of Whitehaven, to come to the aid of the club. We're in dire straits, I make no bones about it."

The CEO said he will 'not let the club fold' and will be the 'last man standing' at Whitehaven RLFC.

Waste of money imho especially when moneys tight. No need to stay over with the distance between the clubs.

Not sure if you have seen it but their interim chairman has put out the rallying call.Feel really sorry for him and I hope he gets help to keep the club going,it’s obvious massive mistakes have been made yet again after last season.

331 at home to Toulouse is pitiful, where are the fans? From the outside it seems they have lost touch with their fan base and all the brilliant community clubs that surround them?

GOT to get their fingers out then, get out into the community.

Jonty Gorley has binned it off now after todays brilliant win with 16 men,I would have thought he would have seen it through until the season end at least.

Obviously has a good reason, but not good at all for Haven!

Clash of personalities with a returning board member apparently, last thing we needed with 6 games to go

Seemed a decent coach to me must be something seriously awry for him to jack in at this point of the season.

"Last thing WE needed".  And there's me thinking you actually were a NEUTRAL fan, should it not read "last thing THEY needed", or is it more the case you are an out and out Haven Fan, there is nothing wrong with that and nothing to be ashamed of, be proud to be a fan and lose the Neutral bit, just call yourself 7 we'll know it's you.  😉

If I could change my name now mate I would but as far as I can see ( and I've looked ) there isn't an option to change my name on here 🤷🏻‍♂️. As far as neutral goes I'll put it down to not being one of those fans that hates other teams and I'll stick to that story 🤣

He said that his position was untenable due to the continued failure to pay the staff. That sounds perfectly reasonable.

What you should have said is "I am not a number I am a free man", perhaps you are just a bit too young to remember The Prisoner but i'm pretty sure it will be on one of the numerous crappy Sky channels.

I also don't hate any other club/team but despite that I am without doubt a long standing Barrow fan and all being well will be for many more years, mind you having said that I have never forgotten losing the Challenge Cup to Featherstone when just a young boy, that does still smart.  😒

That's not what was said

I wasn't there obviously, but that was what the press reported.

What was actually said, then?

"Since Thursday things have happened in the club  that makes my position untenable"

On Thursday it was reported that 5 ex-directors had re-joined the club and it's common knowledge that they didn't get on

So the same directors that f****d it up in the first place and then ran for the hills have returned Neuts?

That seems to be the general consensus mate.

I wouldn't like to fully commit and say yes as last season it was announced we had reduced some of our debts etc so I've no idea how it's got to this.

The thing I find most alarming is how the attendances have fallen off a cliff. It's not as if the team haven't been trying.

You may find the same throughout the lower leagues. Money is tight for spectators and attending games is now discretional spending, not obligatory.

Summer Rugby that's the killer for this sport.
