Probably still be a good move, but feels like the comms was a bit misleading
Chrispmartha Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Melbourne Storms Tepai Moeroa To Super League next year, would think Leeds would be interested with the Brad Arthur link

I hope I’d Moylan retires we use the CAP wisely on a right sided organising Halfback.

I don't know how they could have put it any clearer. 1 "I'm from a fishing family. Trawlermen are like pirates with biscuits." - Lucy Beaumont.

Does mean our starting 13 next year is pretty much known now: 1. Armstrong 2. McIntosh 3. Hanley 4. Niu 5. Charnley 6. Moylan/quota replacement if he retires 7. Lam 8. Pene 9. Ipape 10. Mulhern 11. Condon 12. Halton 13. Liu

Doubtful that they'll all settle in straight away, and we might only be able to judge them in 2026 (if they're still here). Dufty and Marsters examples of this. We're in dire need of a goalkicker as well.

Possibly, but Dufty and Marsters were also playing in struggling sides with some culture issues. on the goalkicking front, if Moylan does leave then that gives the opportunity for a kicking half to come in. It would be a controversial take, but if he does retire I personally would be considering giving McNamara a go(who is a very strong goalkicker and was solid for us earlier in the year) and give Moylans marquee money straight to Ipape on a 5 year deal and try and nail him down. Then either use the quota on a younger option from Oz or hold it back to see how the squad shapes up.

The club need to do everything they can to extend Ipape’s stay. And what is the point of signing McNamara if we’re not going to give him a chance

The press release doesn't really make it clear one way or another, but the use of the word "consultant" should have been a clue. I heard a few weeks ago that Cartwright was bringing a S&C expert across with him for a few weeks in pre season, so I suppose I read the press release kind of already knowing it wasn't a full time appointment. I realise that if you hadn't already heard that then you might have misunderstood it. Anyway, it's still a good appointment whether he's here full time or not. It's not like he's going to head of S&C and working remotely. He is just a consultant for the full time guys to confer with. The more good people we have on the backroom staff the better, whatever capacity they are working in.
Fly-By-TheWire Posted October 4 Posted October 4 (edited) Thought Milford would end up at Leigh to replace Moylan, but seems he's found a NRL club now. Well, an extension to his deal. Edited October 4 by Fly-By-TheWire

It was clear he was going to be working with the club purely on a consultancy basis. Looks like a good move to me and it's not really of any interest where he's going to be based most of the time. The club have recently announced a new head of conditioning so it was obvious they're just tapping into Clarke's expertise. From what Manly have to say about him I can't see a downside. Consultancy can work in many different ways. A consultant might be on a client site numerous times a week, or they might be fully remote but working full time on a project. Or it can be a lighter touch, in someone's spare time from their full time employment like in this case. I don't have too much of an issue with the appointment, seems a good idea to me in fact. I just think that if you are going to post something on your website that references him 'joining' the club, along with the DoR describing it as a huge coup, then the context of him continuing in his role in Australia while providing this service should've been provided as well. 1

Fair comment as usual from yourself and the "huge coup" statement is clearly a bit of spin to put it mildly but it seems like a good idea to me too. 1 "I'm from a fishing family.
