Not bad, new album out I think. Elbow ish?

Title very RL. 😁

I'm sure they'll go down well with the crowd.

Decent enough and announced we'll in advance.

Don't really know them but I'm not massively into music. Looked them up and they've had two number 1 albums so must be a pretty well known band. Apparently they are from Wigan. Great to announce it this far in advance as well.

They've played at Wigan as a pre-match act before. Went down well.

I'm not a fan of having extra 'entertainment' at sporting cup finals etc.. if the match itself isn't enough to attract you or provide sufficient entertainment we have a problem.

Others like it and its part of the event. You aren't obliged to watch it if you dont want to.

Why try to attract new fans to the sport when we can just cater to existing fans.

Do you really think that having a band will entice people to go for that reason alone, paying whatever entrance fee for around 30 mins max bandtime.

They have been on a couple of times (I think) at Leigh definitely once, I say I think because that is how much of an impression they had. But that seems to be the case with all the bands they have on the stage, and I am not aware of anybody going because a particular band is on, the best one was an Elvis singing whilst walking round the pitch, he at least interacted with the fans present.

No a person isn't going to go because a band is playing but I can see 2 scenarios where having a band could have a positive affect.

Scenario 1: "Shall we get to the game for kick off?" "No, let's go half an hour early and spend more money on food and drink."

Scenario 2: "Oh no, I like rugby league but my team didn't reach the GF. I might still go anyway as a neutral and make a day out of it."

Personally i don't think an indie band playing in the stands adds much. The music sounds terrible in that environment and they're too hidden away. I'd much rather have them play on the pitch before kick off, and preferably something more poppy/dancey/lively with a decent show around it.  It just seems lazy and uninventive to me dragging out a local indie band and telling them to play a few hits..

When was this Futtocks?

I can't find any trace of The Lathums playing Wigan or Leigh.

They played the season opener between Wire and Leeds in 2023.

I agree that the logistics around this are poor. I was excited to watch Blossoms a few years back when Wire played Wigan and it sounded horrendous. Tucking them away in the corner just doesn't work in such a big stadium.

I think Lathums are an ok choice in the context of what we currently do, but I do agree that we could be doing far better.

I may be mixing up matches.

The games gone! Surely it has to be a neutral band from somewhere not likely fo be in the grand final. There must be some bands from Yorkshire that could play instead.
