Salford throw Wigan match

Recommended Posts

They’re resting all but 4 players. Clearly they either think Saints don’t have a chance against Leigh, or they’re happy to play an away play off match. Quite surprised they’re doing it in these circumstances to be honest.

Goes without saying that it’s a bad look for the competition though. Poor form.

This is bizarre, why would they not want to try for a home playoff game?

Money.

Yeah it’s a bad look when clubs do that…

The bad look was giving them such a tight turnaround with no warning.

Yes I didn’t like it at the time, and said so. Whether my team do it or not.

But what do you think?

Yes I agree, and likewise called that out at the time too. Two wrongs done make a right.

"Throwing" is a serious allegation. Picking a squad, knowing another game is upcoming with more importance, is the coaches perogative.

If you don’t think picking that squad shows indifference to the result, then I’ve a bridge to sell you.

The bookies odds are quite clear on whether there’s a realistic chance of a Salford victory, so you can stop clasping your handbag now.

You may have, but I’d bet you didn’t use language like ‘Hull KR throw Wigan match’.

As for me, it didn’t bother me when Hull KR did it last year(certainly didn’t help them in the cup final), and doesn’t particularly bother me now. There are pros and cons for a club to consider, reduce the risk of injuries and bans or opt to go in battle hardened. Salford have a tiny squad with very little depth outside their best 17 so I don’t blame them holding them back for a game they were unlikely to win anyway.

They know the options either Saints away or Leigh at home. They must fancy their chances to win both games.

They get a cut of gate money from either.

Exactly this. And they know whatever game they have, they’ll have a better chance with a fully fit and fresh squad. Plus, they would’ve been outsiders to win this game anyway. Would’ve been an odd choice to pick anything like their best 17.

Fair play to you for being consistent with your view on it. But KR as a club can’t really have any complaints, as they have shown it is fair game.

It could negatively impact Leigh, with it giving Saints a guarantee if they win on Friday, but my main issue is still with not having all the games played at the same time

We can all pretend it's fine, but it's pretty rubbish really.

Rubbish, but entirely understandable, and unless there are rules brought in to stop it, like they have in football, there are likely to be examples of it most seasons.

Always seems to be Wigan that benefit though? KR before last year’s final. Wire before this year’s and now this.

The bookies had Wigan as big favourites before the squads were announced as well!
