Back at Newcastle in 2025:

The 2025 Super League Magic Weekend will take place in May. Rugby League Live can reveal that the event will return to Newcastle next year and will take place on the weekend of May 3rd/4th.

After leaving St James' Park for a year, the Super League weekend will return in 2025, having been held at Leeds United's Elland Road this year. It proved to be the second-lowest attended in the concept's history, with supporters not approving of the move.

Newcastle is seen by many as Magic Weekend's spiritual home and has historically been the most popular in terms of attendances. It did not take place there last year as the event was pushed back to an August date, which then clashed with the start of the football season.

Is this decision likely to have any bearing on whether Newcastle gets an Ashes test?

Will it be a case of Newcastle has had Magic, so we will take the Ashes test elsewhere?

Or might they think they've had Magic, so it would be nice to follow that up with an Ashes test also in Newcastle?

I'd imagine Newcastle was out as an Ashes venue due to it being during the Football season. Just as the Magic date change last year ruled out Newcastle.

Good point. IMG don't want Magic at all (which I wholeheartedly agree with). Good to see the RFL's money being spent well.

Its a good opportunity to market to the Newcastle audience twice which I am a big fan of, and the football fixture list isn't out for 25/26 (all the stadiums we are considering have football matches in them). Again, how brave are the RFL willing to be?

As for magic, great to see it go back to a city centre location and some decent fixtures too, lets hope they can get the fans back we lost on the way to Elland road last year. We talk about pillars of the season and Magic is one of them, we have lost the WCC next year so we need to take care of those we still have.

Indeed, especially apt on this thread when IMG wanted to get rid of Magic completely.

The RFL are spending hardly any money on IMG. In fact, IMG lose a fortune on rugby league and will do for years. Good news though: There's an entire thread dedicated to that, with hundreds of pages of circular arguments and partial truths just like your one here... so why not pop over and join the ride? Please bring some biscuits

You've caught me out. I live to get threads merged into one giant behemoth.

Living in Newcastle, I'm delighted at this news.

But I hope there's a plan to get it marketed like a major event up here. It can't just be the week before when the teams send a player and coach for media duty. Get it marketed and let's get a magic attendance!

Agree entirely. Let's not just have 6 games, let's have a festival, a party, an EVENT!

That should include playing junior RL festivals on both mornings before the games start. Invite as many local junior clubs and schools as possible to take part.

Are there any left in Newcastle?

Perhaps let Newcastle United season ticket holders for half price.

Or Wigan Warriors season ticket holders for free?
