Forget about Sam Burgess playing in the Third Test against New Zealand. After one year of playing rugby union he cannot possibly be up to the fitness standards of rugby league. Just ask Henry Paul, who after returning directly from the Dark Side struggled for weeks to get up to fitness levels at the London Broncos!

Far more recently than that - Joel Tomkins.  He struggled horrendously at first, but once he got a full pre-season in at Wigan, he went well.

SB will be back at the Bunnies for pre-season, and will be good to go I suspect.

EDIT - but of course I agree - involving him in the 3rd test would be ludicrous.  Not to mention an utter insult to the guys who have played RL all season!!!

Goes to show how insular Union is, won't accept league players and won't select your layers who dare to move abroad to ply there trade. Burgess will be given a heroes welcome by Uncle Russell and the Rabbitohs

Outstanding news ! Huge mistake going but at least he's put that right . Great for our game and our national side with a big two years ahead .

Good to hear the sky Union reporter being really fair and decent , saying its wrong people blamed him. Greenwood saying Union let him down . Interesting what other union mouthpieces say ?

Welcome home chief

I'm pretty sure I made some stupid prediction about him not coming back to rugby league.

Although he'll be viewed as a failure by the wider public in England, in Australia this will be largely ignored. I always thought his pride would mean he stuck it out but I guess if he'll be settling in Australia it didn't become an issue.

We have to try and get him on the field at half time or before the game. He'll get the reception he deserves. If England did pick him they wouldn't need to worry about selling it out. Of course they won't but it's a nice thought.

He won't be viewed as a failure by the wider public in England as the RU doesn't hold that level of interest of the majority of the population

RU supporters are a very narrow part of the overall population

Barnes is rubbishing him on SSN now though.

Barnes always comes across as snobbish , superior , arrogant and pompous . He sits there pontificating about Union like he's on the open university . You hear these guys and what they rave on about bears no resemblance to what you watch !!

I love how the likes of Carling are blaming the England coaching staff. Why????????

Its a-holes like him, Barnes, Greenwood, Darcy that have forced him out by vilifying him publicly when in fact he did very little wrong. I doubt without that response he would have moved back.

Carling is still trying to claim that England lost against Wales in the first 70 minutes when they were leading by 10 and Sam was on, not the last ten as was obvious to all and sundry.

If the Union journos, and some ex players  hadn't come down on him like a ton of bricks after the Wales defeat, making him the scapegoat, he'd probably still be in Union.  Whatever they say, no one should have to put up with that sort of treatment.

It is precisely due to the poisonous pontifications of Barnes and his cowardly Ilk that Sam has decided that his talents are best displayed in a sport that reveres him on both sides of the world rather than waste his abilities trudging through snakepits inhabited by slimy reptilians such as Barnes.

Not true, I would say that Burgess is currently a household name in the UK after the World Cup. As his RL achievements will not reach the same level, he'll always be tarnished with this in England. In Aus he was a household name for being one of the best players in the NRL. They'll know that England RU failed him rather than the other way round.

RFL should be weighing in on this to cash in on the publicity.

How about Sam MIGHT be picked for the next two games with no intention of actually playing him.

Journalist and RU fan Brendan Gallagher has stated on Twitter that Burgess Is "scuttling" back to RL

Feels that he made no impact and MoM awards were a farce and that he didn't do anything in all the games he played .......
