JohnM Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 No warnings needed. 32 sounds tough. General guidelines are 10% plus 1 mph. Again generally. For a true 32 mph. Your speedo could be showing anywhere between 32 and 35. Take the course.
Derwent Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 F### C### W### S### and B######## Just been pinged for driving at 32 in a 30 zone coming home from work on Saturday morning @7am (not a speed camera, must have been cops hiding in the bushes). I know what this will sound like.... but seriously? On a deserted stretch of road with no houses or anything around it? They should be out catching the real criminals I take it WYP don't adopt the 10% + 2mph approach then ? Anyway, you'll get a speed awareness course for it, unless of course you have previous in the last 3 years.... I’m not prejudiced, I hate everybody equally
Martyn Sadler Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 No, nothing at all. Ever in fact. Maybe that's why it's so irritating. I recently was caught in a similar manner. I felt just like you do. I attended a speed awareness course with clenched teeth. But oddly enough it was quite interesting and I did learn a few things. I don't know whether that means I'm a better driver now.
longboard Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Take the course JOC. You'll be with the steady Eddie over the speed limit drivers, rather than with the racers/headers. Each time i have done the speed awareness course I have found it interesting.
gingerjon Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Each time i have done the speed awareness course I have found it interesting. Works then. Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life. (Terry Pratchett)
gingerjon Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Indubitably. Personally I'd ban the lot of you. Twice. Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life. (Terry Pratchett)
Derwent Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 No, nothing at all. Ever in fact. Maybe that's why it's so irritating. Speed awareness course isn't too bad, but it costs you about the same as the fine would have. Only difference is you won't get the 3 points on your licence, once you complete the course (only lasts about 3 hours) then your record is wiped clean. I’m not prejudiced, I hate everybody equally
Phil Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Mrs Phil went on a speed awareness course, at the end they asked what she'd learned "To keep an eye out for mobile speed cameras" was her reply. Apparently they were not too impressed with her answer "Freedom without socialism is privilege and injustice, socialism without freedom is slavery and brutality" - Mikhail Bakunin
Shaggy Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 My speed awareness course was ok but was all about speeding in town. I was got doing 77mph on the A1 in Lincs. Nothing on the course taught me why that was an horrendous crime. Unlike 32 in a 30. They made those people feel really bad. What were you thinking? Do not fear; only BELIEVE

I'm not sure it; I think insurance companies now ask if you have attended a speed awareness course even if it didn't result in a conviction/points on your licence. I may be wrong though. "it is a well known fact that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it."

hindle xiii Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Maybe, as it was road works the speed limit was 20? Where was this trap anyway?
SE4Wire Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 My speed awareness course was ok but was all about speeding in town. I was got doing 77mph on the A1 in Lincs. Nothing on the course taught me why that was an horrendous crime. Unlike 32 in a 30. They made those people feel really bad. What were you thinking? I think that's also because doing 77 on the A1 isn't actually that dangerous (assuming it was a dual carriageway) providing you leave enough distance, but most people don't. Accidents are far more likely on low speed limit urban roads than they are on dual carriageways and the impact of speeding on accidents is massive on those urban roads, plus you're more likely to encounter a vulnerable road use (pedestrian/cyclist).

JohnM Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 i think you have this covered Phil.... I'm not needed here 4Quite so, given that many many decades of Labour councils in the north have made it the mess it is today. However, i'd cap the renovation expebditure at exactly £369 million and not one single penny more. No cost overruns whatsoever.

How about making the Saxe-Coburg-Gothas pay for it themselves? My house is older than Buck Place who's going to pay for my roof turning? Oh yeah, I am, in fact I'm such a lovely bloke I'm gonna pay for Lizzie's renovations too, along with you and just about everyone on here. Still, its democracy innit?
