Whitehaven have announced they will be hosting a special Christmas lunch at the LEL Arena.

The event, which is free of charge, will be for those who would otherwise be lonely on Christmas Day. The invitation is extended to anybody who contacts the club via social media, or through the club office before 23rd December.

In a statement, the club said: “Christmas is a joyous time for most of us however for some it can be a time where they feel isolated.

“This year, Whitehaven RLFC are going to be putting on a Christmas lunch at the LEL Arena, free of charge, for anyone who wishes to spend a few hours in the company of others that are in a similar position of not having anyone to share the day with.

“We will be putting together a Christmas lunch for anyone who contacts the club, via its social media pages, club office or through another means possible by Thursday the 23rd of December.”

Well done Whitehaven, a great gesture!

Guess someone will be on here shortly to find fault.

The turkey is dry and the gravy's lumpy!

Seriously... a great initiative.

What a lovely gesture. It really restores my faith in humanity when I read things like this. Well done Whitehaven, we need more of this particularly in the current climate. Fantastic. Lump in throat moment.

Don't have a pint then. I would've thought the thought of having some company would be enough. They could have a brew instead.👍

Great news, I just hope they get electricity connections, given the current bad weather.

It's getting rough down here, 70+MPH winds predicted.

I assume that is to help raise money for the event, and prevent others from drinking too much. That's what we do.

Yeah it did. Whatever the joke was. 🤔

He was juxtapositioning the rather wonderful Haven initiative with a common gripe from regulars here about the price of beer at stadiums. The actual price he quoted is probably exaggerated

It didn't make me laugh out loud but it was worth posting. It was just a gentle bit of faux outrage to complement the lovely story with some mirth

I'm ****ing amazed you didn't get it to be honest.....or did you but fancied a moan? Either scenario is ridiculous

Kernow electrics are used to it, so are Cumbrians, shame the companies aren't
