It’s Doug Stanhope on the 16th September. Sadly i had to sell on my tickets as i can’t  make it on that date. But the next time he is over here i would definitely like to go and see him.
I wonder if he’ll stay off the booze, cigs, and weed for the full thirty days like he said he would ?.

if he did that wouldnt be very rock n roll would it?

On Saturday 5th November my band Oil City will be playing an entrée of Rock and Roll, a main course of Rhythm and Blues and a desert of Punk at The Dusty Miller, Burnley Road, Mytholmroyd.

A decent boozer with usually a couple of good guest beers.

Gig starts at 9pm

Oil City, bringing Rhythm and Blues back to the people

I have managed to find myself a victim (what some of my family & friends call it when i look for a chauffeur to take me to a gig).
I am seeing Yo La Tengo in Manchester in April. I love YLT they have done some fantastic LP’s, I’ll have to catch up on the new one out.

Snow permitting, 76 year old Shetland fiddle player Aly Bain and accordionist Phil Cunningham for me tonight, at Reeth Village Hall. Slightly smaller venue than places like Carnegie Hall New York that they've played in the past.

I went to watch Yo La Tengo on Wednesday at the New Century in Manchester, i had never been before and neither had my chauffeur. Trying to find it was a pain but we managed to get there about 30mins before YLT came on which was good timing and it was a great venue.
I thought they was fantastic as always and you certainly get your money’s worth for £27.50p.
They came on the stage at 8.15pm and played two sets, with a 5min break after set one. They played nine songs in the first set and then ten songs in set two with an extended version of Ohm when Ira Kaplan disappeared for 5mins. Id imagine it was for a call of nature.
They finished off with an encore of three covers “Breakin In My Heart - Tom Verlaine”, “By The Time It Gets Dark - Sandy Denny” “Speeding Motorcycle - Daniel Johnston”.

If they ever return to the North West i would definitely watch them again.

Well hopefully Queens of the Stone Age. Despite being a Bradfordian I currently live 2 miles from Halifax. Money has been well spent in the wonderful Piece Hall and has become a music venue in recent years. Tom Jones and Noel Gallagher amongst many others in recent years and this Sting, Limp Bizkit and QOTSA. I know some might mot know of the latter two but my music go to is rock, metal and indie and to have some highly established bands from that genre performing "down the dip" is a tad surreal.

Good venue if the weather is good. We've seen Primal Scream, Noel Gallagher & Kaiser Chiefs there, with James booked in for this year.

Edit: I wouldn't have minded QOTSA as well, so just looked at tickets. Sadly clashes with Muse playing in Huddersfield, so can't do both.

Only just caught up with your post, JonM.

Did you manage to get to Reeth (over the Buttertubs?) to see Aly Bain?

I saw him at the Croft Spa Hotel, between Northallerton and Darlington, on the North Riding side of the Tees) in about 1973.

I hope you are enjoying Wensleydale life.  Where in the dale are you living?

Went along Wensleydale to Leyburn, then over into Swaledale on the A road (gritted, but still interesting in the snow), then back along to Reeth. Took about 45 minutes to do a journey which is normally less than 10 miles on the single track road over the top. Aly Bain & Phil Cunningham were brilliant. Aly Bain could easily pass for 50, but he's 76.

We recently saw a duo from Orkney in the same venue, saltfishforty, playing fiddle/ guitar/ mandolin, who were also excellent. Their sense of geography was interesting, referring to Wick as "down South" and I think not realising that Yorkshire is quite big. They were surprised that no-one in the audience had been to the place in Yorkshire (over 2 hours away) where they'd bought a handmade instrument from a luthier.

Absolutely love living in Wensleydale. We're about a mile from the waterfalls at Aysgarth. Been out for a run along Bishopdale and over into upper Wharfedale this morning - amazing views wherever you go.

This Saturday in the Exchange Bar in Bradford city centre ... Griff's Magic Theatre. Not a magic show but a DJ set. Griff is a Bradford legend amongst the cognoscenti; his set includes psychedelic tracks from the past and classic rock tracks that you seldom hear on the radio. Only vinyl allowed. He must be about seventy now but he's got a dedicated following of all ages. Catch him if you can on, he doesn't  do many gigs and the Exchange Bar is a top real ale pub.

Pulp at Bridlington Spa last night. Superb performance, but I don't think I've ever been to a gig before where so many people talked all the way through, especially for the headline act. 🙄

Great reply, JonM - sorry I overlooked acknowledging it at the time!
