If Leigh played a team like say Salford right now - Salford would dismantle them - the step upto SL is just too large.

A promoted team just has to concentrate on not getting relegated.

A promoted team has to concentrate on winning games just like all the other teams do , nothing else

But have to be good enough to do that - history tells us promoted clubs just don't have the players of the know-how to win enough games in SL.

I picked a very good, but mid table SL team to make my point.

Remember TO and Toronto swept all aside in their promotion years and both struggled in SL.

Doesn't matter which team you picked , all teams are beatable , it's just about beating enough of them , beating Saints gets you the same number of points as beating Wakey

But the point is - they wouldn't win enough games to get enough points...

In 2017 Leigh didn't finish bottom , so did win enough games to stay up in a straight P and R system , so did HKR the year after , does that history not count ? , Does London winning 10 games ( enough to finish 9th this year ) not count ?

You saying " they wouldn't " doesn't mean they wouldn't , it's just your opinion , history does tell us that

They will be without their imports

Yes 4, again FOUR, of the imports that are currently in the squad, there is 13 of them, 2 have already effectively left, 7 will be remaining, why do you have to make it sound so melodramatic?

In fairness, Leigh were 11th, a point ahead of Widnes, so with a few more regular season games, it would still have been anyones.

Regardless of whether those are irreplaceable, the market at this time of the year has already had plenty plucked from it, leaving Leigh (or whoever is promoted) to pick the left behinds from other sides, so likely replaceable players from other clubs bouncing between the divisions.

I hear James Cunningham loves a newly promoted side.

DB gave Chester/Lam the go ahead to recruit for next year based on SL budget regardless of the league we're in back in April and they've been working on recruitment since. Signing announcements don't tend to happen until players play their last game for their current club as we saw for Jake Trueman and others, there will be announcements to come at the conclusion of the season. Was it not for Charnley completely falling out with DP, he'd have likely only been announced come October.

Zero chance of James Cunningham signing after he backed out last minute from the 2 player swap deal with Huddersfield last year. Peats and Peteru went one way, Ashworth came the other with Cunningham supposed to join him. Seems Hudds weren't too impressed with his conduct either considering they didn't play him for the rest of the year and showed him the door.

Should we make SL our signings so far have been better than I thought possible, and would become even better should we retain a SL spot by being comfortable next May.

Briscoe, Hill, Taylor, Hood, Mulhern, Davis, Hughes, Luetele, Burgess, plus 1 more import and we have a decent start to recruitment.

I reckon this current Leigh squad would finish 9th or 10th if they were in SL now (acknowledging that they wouldn't have all the imports etc). I suspect Degsy wont leave anything to chance this time around and they'll build on this squad to have something pretty competitive next season.

We lost to Widnes and Wakey twice that season and with a coaching set up of the quality we have today would have been a settled SL club now imo

How much money has Derek put into Leigh ?

About 1/10th of what he says he is prepared to put in, and don't discount that he may well be joined by his good friend Dr Koukash who is never away from Leigh and reputedly going to finance Leigh's very expensive incoming Marquee player.
