The Alternative England Squad

Recommended Posts

Here is a list of players from previous England squads, train-on groups etc. who have not made the England squad.

Can you help me fill in whether these players are out because of fitness (they've been or are injured) or because of form (just not good enough according to Wane)

Not really a thread for debating ins & outs, just info on the names.

Please indulge me as I haven't kept up with SL in 2022 as I might have done.

Ta.

Marshall and Hardaker are the really stupid non selections for me

I could see the value of Marshall in the squad as he has had a good year.

But why anyone would want to take Zak Hardaker into the camp who has let teams down time and time again I have no idea.

I like Sutton and I would probably have had him in ahead of Lees and Cooper but it's not a deal breaker for me.  He has been in and out of the Raiders squad this year so I don't think he is a huge miss.

Not aware of him causing issues on camps like England

He's older, more mature and in amazing form

Taking Zak would be smart in my view

He left the England camp mid tournament in 2013.

As for mature.  Afraid He has had far too many second chances for that to ring true.  The best indicator of future behaviour is past behaviour.

There may (and it is a huge 'may') be some players talented enough that you take a risk on them but Hardaker is not even close.

Philbin broke his leg mid season.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Do we think Dodd would have been picked in the squad ?

If his form had carried on, or improved, from his season start then yes.

Up to his injury the Saints spine of Welsby, Lomax and Dodd was in great form. Wane was a fan and had him in his training squad.

But for the injury to Dodd and Roby's retirement from internationals, I think you could make a fair case for England just using saints full spine of 1,6,7,9 and 13

In the form he was in then yes. Same with Mikey Lewis who seems to have been forgotten about, he was sensational at times before he got injured.
