We could just have a proper War of the Roses! I think I've got an old claymore out in the shed and my mate has definitely got a trebuchet in his backyard that's going unused. Let's all march on Leigh! We can't take the train anyway..! 😉

It can't be a proper war of the roses as in players originating from the county, but yeah put Leigh in representing Lancashire they have yet to be defeated in any comp by any team from East of the Pennines this season.

I will take that as 1 - 0 to me in response to your post HG😙

No, no, no…………………no.

and while we are at it no to a 9’s tournament replacing magic weekend as well.

Some people say they would sooner watch paint dry in response to something they consider not worth doing, but I would sooner do the painting than suffer a reduced format RL tournament such as 7's or 9's, leave that to the Rah Rah's who don't watch proper rugby anyway.

I would have thought a Roses day/weekend could work:

Academy, Womens, Mens, Legends

I don't subscribe to any fears about it making the game look parochial. Providing you've got a Challenge Cup final at Wembley and ideally an annual England match in London too, you've got enough of a balance.

If we have a Roses game/series, and I am not against the concept, it should not be instead of an England game against France, it should be as well as.

There is some uncertainty about international Rugby League, as there always is, but as the two serious, professional, Rugby League playing nations in the Northern Hemisphere England and France should play each other home and away every single year.

Only if they can get full commitment from the French Dunny, and then I wonder what good it will do the England/GB team in preparation for the scheduled up coming international programme which will be matching our national team with quality teams from down under.

Perhaps they should invite East Sussex into a 4 team comp with Lancs, Yorks and Cumbria, just to drum up more interest 🤔

Sorry couldn't resist.

If I were in charge and this were happening then Cumbria would definitely be involved.

No no no, never ever ever.

Why is origin so big down under? Because there is genuine dislike and antipathy between Qld and NSW, look at Bradman Best’s statement when asked about Qld, “I hate them” was his response.

Over here Yorkshire and Lancashire share a “Northern” culture, if we hate anyone it’s the south and they can’t put a team out.

You're also 1-0 up in terms of proper Wars of the Roses but I'm not sure how Leigh's success on the rugby field can stop a Hullensian using a trebuchet to shoot rotting cow corpses into the stands of the Leigh Sports Village.

I'd willingly answer that if I knew what you was on about!

When buildings and town were besieged in the middle ages, the besieging army used Trebuchets and catapults to fire rotting animal corpses over city walls in an attempt to spread disease inside and force people to surrender.

Have we softened then in your opinion Phil, years ago I coached junior teams at County level and Yorkshire teams were considered the arch enemy, to put on that jersey with the Red Rose meant everything to the lads.

Right OK then.

So essentially what I'm saying is instead of a RL War of the Roses, I would prefer a proper War of the Roses seen as we haven't had one in over 500 years, and I've started massing an army to march on the Leigh Sports Village seen as that is the fortress of Leigh, which I will then besiege and try to force the surrender of its defenders by firing animal corpses into the ground.

I don't see what's unclear about that. No, I'm not mental.

Last time roses matches was brought up my preferred option would be a SL England v NRL England. I know we aernt quite there yet numbers wise in the NRL but it will be in the next couple of years. I think it would naturally create the rivalries we don’t get anymore with roses games because SL players would always go into it with something to prove.

I really don't think that 1 big match in London is balance.
