Do you recommend the remote attached via the wire or not?

No remote you should have to get up and push the buttons yourself. Ideally it should also have tracking on it if you want to go top end.

I would go for which you are more comfortable with.

For example if you are used to using an 8 track in your car or a cassette it might help you decide

There’s posh

I’ve only got a push button MW/LW radio with 6 presets

There's more porn available on VHS* so I predict it will win the battle of the systems.

* A friend told me, obvs

That's a no brainer.

And make sure that if someone walks past and accidentally gets tangled in the wire, detaching it from the VCR, that you insist that they plug the cable back in and retrieve the remote and hand it back to you from wherever it's gone flying off to.

They are responsible for the mayhem and you shouldn't have to leave your chair to remedy their carelessness.

I guess it's more reliable and not reliant on batteries

6 presets? Lucky you! Tell that to the kids of today........etc.

Absolutely true story this.

In the 1980s my wife had a disc removed from her lower spine. At the time she was a student nurse, she was therefore really well looked after by the nursing staff.

After the operation she was given one of the very few individual rooms that were available at that time in which to recover, don't know if she got it because she was a student and being looked after as 'one of ours'.

The rarity for the time was the individual rooms had a television, the problem though was that it had four pre-set pushbuttons for each of the four channels available, to change channel you had to get out of bed and walk over to the TV select your channel and get yourself back in bed.

Being a fairly brutal operation at that time getting up to change channel was a none stater and Sharon knowing how busy the staff were didn't want to buzz them to come and change channels.

I solved this problem by getting an eight foot garden cane and screwing a hook into one end. The hook allowed the cane to be hung on the bed head and when she wanted to change channels unhook it and use it to push the buttons to change channels.

When Sharon was leaving, the nurse overseeing the discharge asked if I wouldn't mind leaving my remote control for the next patient as it was really useful.
