2024 Challenge Cup: Round 2

Recommended Posts

The BBC's hit-rate with good games has been pretty impressive since they started streaming the early rounds. I can't recall many duds.

Saw most of the Leigh stan game. Lancelott is improving at a rapid rate even from last season, just needs to remain consistent.
Went to the Fryston Hunslet match and Hunslet were a class apart. Counted 4 tries from opening 5 sets, killed the game off in the first 15mins with that hit rate. 42-0 at HT, played 60mins with 12 men after a red card and another 10 in the second half with 11 from a sinbin, could’ve ended up well past 80 with a full compliment.

Hope to see some potential upsets in round 3

Finishes 28-22 to WW. Great for the SCL.

Two great wins for the Southern Conference teams today.

Wests Warriors defeated Rochdale Mayfield who finished third in the National Premier last year and Hammersmith beat West Bowling who topped Division 1.

Took in the Toll Bar v West Hull game

Only previously visited in 2010 and thought then they were building towards the NCL.

They have now established themselves as as good as any in the Yorkshire League. I was told only running one open age team was a problem but I doubt they would be alone any more and they run all ages at youth level.

There has been a slight change of identity in that the programme and the badge on the short identified them as Doncaster ARL. With the village being very small, 1100 population according to Wikipedia and with Bentley only a mile or so down the road, I was told they represent the mining villages to the north such as Askern who formally ran a side.

I gained the filling they were confidence of a win but it has to be remembered that West Hull are actually four divisions higher. I am sure Toll Bar could beat much of division 3 but the visitors were 12 0 up early and whilst Toll Bar closed the gap, there was always the feeling West Hull had much more in reserve.

Although not local, this is the type of team, I would love to support. They handled the day well, organised parking, a great choice of food, some home made and friendly people. The ground is fully railed. Overall as good as any in YML.

Hopefully not 14 years for next visit.

Crowd c350.

There was also a programme, Hopping Mad of this forum kindly sent me one form the first round and very similar today. Admission including this was £3. As always the best value of any sport.

Couple of tremendous results for the London sides.

Draw for the third round is tomorrow at 6.30pm on iPlayer and BBC website. Hoping Siddal get a home tie; West Yorkshire has been a bit light for games in rounds 1&2.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Sounds like West Bowling lost the plot big time

Orrell St James v York Acorn on The Sportsman right now. The visitors scored almost immediately when OSJ failed to deal with the kick-off.

Sounds pretty windy.

He hasn't moved since the collision. Fingers crossed he's okay.

Nicely worked try from Acorn.  Looks like they are starting to pull away a bit.

BBC picked a good'un there. Anyone know if Lancelot's had offers from pro clubs, definitely a class act.

Leigh should try and sign him up for their reserves squad, and you never know what might happen...

Do Wests Warriors play their home games in Acton? Do any teams play in Chiswick? I want to get my ###### down to see more local games this coming season.

I would think he’s already on Purtill & Littler’s radar.

Yeah, WW at Acton. Both HHH and London Chargers down at Chiswick but not at same ground.

I was told it was a badly dislocated knee, which came out at right angles but popped back as the paramedics worked to get him to the ambulance. No doubt faces  a period of recovery on the sidelines. We all hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Plenty of war wounded and sore bodies in the clubhouse after the game. Excellent work  all round by the  match officials , club first aiders and staff in dealing with that injury in a professional, sensible way .  And to the RFL for keeping the show on the road . These early rounds really are value for money......

If I've counted correctly, that means 7 NCL clubs and 3 clubs from regional leagues join the Championship and League 1 clubs in tomorrow's 3rd and 4th round draws.

Nearly right Mark.

7 NCL Premier Division clubs go through together with Stanningley from NCL Div 1.  making 8 in total . They join the 2  London clubs who  I believe have some great antipodean talent in their ranks. Can't wait for tomorrow's draw for  Rounds 3 and 4......

I've seen Hammersmith Hills Hoists and London Chargers at Chiswick Rugby Club (Dukes Meadows).  Where else do they play?

Very painful but a relief that, given the length of the stoppage, it wasn't something more serious.
