I thought I heard the ref mention the independent doctor intervening.

For Philbin?  if that the case the physio's need looking at, no way they should have even considered letting him play on.

Wilkin just gone to town on the current sin bin issues on sky. Agreed with everything he said. The current approach does nothing to fix the concussion issues but just creates an appealing look for the game.

Ignoring the VR intervention point which has been done to death, I think they are both fine as yellows. The high tackle was a shoulder to the face and Lees' was a cynical late hit. Neither the worst tackle, but punished all year with a card.

Not 100% sure, but that's what I thought he'd said .

What triggers a HIA? He didn't lose consciousness , had medical treatment and he's back on playing now.

Is every bump to the head a HIA? The answer is no, but is there any published protocol?

I didn't hear that tbh, the ref did give the Wire team the choice. I thought he over-explained it and pretty much led them to it.

I think the independent Dr can step in quite a bit he’s looking for signs of players passing out or unsteadiness on their feet. As far as I know any of these make the HIA unnecessary as they are an automatic fail.

Ball handling and discipline has been terrible this game.

What a blatant penalty to give away.

The offsides haven't even been close either, seem to be offside by at least 4m every time he's given that penalty.

Didn't I hear just before half time that both teams completion was 80%+?

I think the Opta guy must have dozed off!!!

Those 'friendly fire' incidents where two defenders clash heads attempting a tackle very often result in a HIA.  I think the nature of incident itself warranted a HIA.

We are not limiting HIA to just incidents where a player loses consciousness are we?

No, but we also don't see every head clash lead to a HIA, so I was wondering what signs meant this absolutely should have been one?

I'll be honest, I'm surprised it wasn't. But my understanding is the on field assessment was completed.

The test will be if the player is aware where he is and what he’s doing. Basically what day it is. Any sign that he isn’t quite right will result in a HIA. If we are looking to do one for any head contact we are going to need 10 or 12 people on the bench.

I think this is what I was wondering. He was assessed and was deemed OK. I was wondering what sign meant a fan watching on TV was able to decide the medic was wrong.

That Knowles forearm on a falling Tai was much more forceful than the minor contact from Fitzgibbon.

If the first one is a yellow, Knowles should also be off for ten.

I'm just not sure about this.  The player has just had a major clash of heads, he was clearly dazed and he had a decent sized bump on his temple.  If we care about player welfare that is a HIA every day of the week.

I must admit I didn't find that one horrendous. As much as I enjoy seeing Knowles sat down.

Yeah, just a penalty IMO.

It was more forceful than the yellow card though.

I don't think a bump over the eye that causes watery eyes and a bump should automatically be an HIA. With the head going near his eye, he may have just needed a minute or two to blink and shake it off.

It's that's true . They must have had lots of sets each!
