I'm just not sure about this.  The player has just had a major clash of heads, he was clearly dazed and he had a decent sized bump on his temple.  If we care about player welfare that is a HIA every day of the week.

You may well be right but surely we have to trust the medical staff are trained and competent. We really can’t tell watching I could smash my nose like Andy Farrell and still not need a HIA or a huge cut over my eye and still not need one. Or as in this case a lump on the head but what we do know is that player will be monitored now for any signs of concussion kicking in.

I don't think a bump over the eye that causes watery eyes and a bump should automatically be an HIA. With the head going near his eye, he may have just needed a minute or two to blink and shake it off.

I thought we were in an era of understanding the dangers of head injuries.  After a major clash of heads, you don't just blink it off, you check for concussions symptoms with a HIA.

Taylor-Wray is exciting to watch isn't he? Some of his movement is a little Iestyn Harris-esque imo.

My wife reckoned that Walmsley was thinking to himself "oh sod it, I've had enough today"

I can’t remember a single incidence of us threating the Warrington line.

Nice try. It’s worth a go.

Why do we need an independent doctor if we trust the club staff?

I feel like that should probably be a professional foul..

Are professional fouls only for try scoring opportunities? He maliciously did that, not knowing Welsbys position.

Walmsley and Blake having some pretty cringey moments in the last few minutes.

Blake raises the bar.

The independent doctor didn't raise an issue either.

Why, as a professional foul, wasn't Blake sent to the bin then?

If we are binning Saints players for off the ball hits, they'd be down to 9.

That wasn't the point I was making.  I was replying to the statement that 'surely we have to trust the medical staff are trained and competent' with the question of why then do we need an independent doctor.

Which the physio was doing. I don't think one should assume that all such bumps require an HIA.

Yeah, understood. I suppose my point is that the independent doctor is part of the 'medical staff'.

Oh well, it seems like most people on here would have been happy to Philbin play on.

I am glad he went for a HIA.

They can sit and rewind view different angles to see if it’s crossed any lines that either he should be removed for a hia or just removed full stop. Physios are continuing there work and I’m guessing don’t have the time to go into that much detail.

I think this is what I was wondering. He was assessed and was deemed OK. I was wondering what sign meant a fan watching on TV was able to decide the medic was wrong.

The physios/doctors have a set of on pitch protocols they follow, I believe these vary slightly for each player. At the start of each season every player does a cognitive baseline assessment, through the season this is used as a benchmark when assessing if a player is concussed or recovered from concussion. Though the BLA is used mainly for returning from a diagnosed concussion it is, I believe, used as part of the on-field assessment.

Yeah, could easily have been yellow.

Seeing Tai jump out of the line every time the ball goes near him ... Just makes me think it can't be that hard for a decent attacking team to take advantage of it.
