England need to look for as close to an 80 minute performance as possible, look to cut out all those usual lapses in concentration and in and out performances we get. Noted in the build up a few players talking about how they played poorly in our last game against Samoa, lets see an improvement.

The revenge narrative is in the marketing that was on all the northern rail screens I saw on my trip to Robin Park Leisure centre's tennis courts, but for me the narrative should be about climbing back up the rankings. We beat the 5th best team, now we need to beat the 4th best team, bigger battles are ahead, and this is all the prep we can get.

99% of fans have no idea what team is ranked where, whereas they know Samoa knocked us out of our home WC.

If anything they haven't leaned into this angle anywhere near enough, IMO.

Just to reinforce that I’m not a COMPLETE misery I’m actually a season ticket holder at my club for 30+ years, go to semi finals, finals as a neutral, internationals, vegas this year and next year, replica kits galore for all the family,  going today with 4 mates.  Hoping to enjoy the day.  Just get so frustrated with (a) the state the sport is in and (b) the amount of people who think everything is actually not too bad with the sport.  Just wow.

Great.  So now you have that off your chest, let's have a good chat about the game.

Glad that the weather is looking well set for the day. Our backline looks as good as we've had for a long while, with plenty of pace and hopefully we can move the ball around a bit and be a bit more expansive then we could be against Tonga last year, when the weather was pretty poor from memory. Having Farnworth and Young in this year adds some excitement. We need some young forwards (young or inexperienced at international level anyway) to make a mark now, so hopefully we'll see Havard, Nsemba and Pearce-Paul step up and prove they're lads to take us forward and compliment that back line and spine, which all looks set fair.

Samoa to compete for the 1st 20 mins -  Eng turn the screw and win by 16 plus due to home advantage and lack of any warm up games - Samoa 4 quality players short of their best ( how can a team step off a plane and compete without a warm up game?) all predictable enough stuff - hope the ref lets the game flow

see you later undertaker - in a while necrophile

So is there actually any team news anywhere for this game?   I haven't seen any build-up on any media outlet.

Really disappointed to see Nsemba miss out for Bateman

Nsemba not being in the 17 feels a strange decision to me. We have this series before an away Ashes and I'd rather look at him today than in a first test away in Australia.

The 'revenge' angle worked v New Zealand in 2015 because the general 'sporting public recognised NZ as a powerhouse in rugby, and those who had watched the World Cup semi knew England had tried their hearts out and had victory snatched from them.

I think they have tried the revenge narrative (certainly on the publicity I've seen) this time but it has fallen flat because (1) Samoa are still thought of as a team England should beat, (2) it is well understood that if England had won that WC semi, that would have been a slightly undeserved steal, and (3) Samoa are just a bit too nice / unknown.

I think to create some spice, Samoa would have had to strut around with a huge amount of swagger for the last week, saying how horrible they find the north of England and how they see the England team as a bit of a joke. Instead they've been singing hymns and taking selfies with schoolkids.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

It's a selection based on name and Wane is making the same mistakes as the World Cup there.  Nsemba is the future and has had a great season, Bateman has been on the slide for some time and doesn't deserve his place in my opinion.

I don't think Bateman has ever let anyone down and he does play well for England - and his no backward step attitude is valuable.

But.  Nsemba is just a far better player at this point.

People talk about a Wigan bias with Wane but it isn't that, he's biased (loyal) to lads who've played for him before, be that ex Wigan players or lads he's picked for England. You look at the selection in the 24 of Chris Hill and now Bateman and McMeekan in the 17 and I think other options will feel aggrieved (I like McMeekan btw but he's missed a lot of rugby towards the end of the season) but he tries to show faith and hopes that will be repaid. In the main it has been but sometimes you just have to pick a new player and that should be the case with Nsemba. I'm not sure how you can leave him out but we'll see how we go.

They should both be playing IMO. Nsemba should have Knowles spot on the bench.

What does the 18th man do?

Come in if someone gets hurt in the warm up or in the case of four failed HIAs (I think?).

I would have picked Nsemba for his impact and with an eye on the future, but Bateman is in form, experienced in test rugby and someone isn't 'on the slide' just because they don't play for Wigan anymore.

You really are obsessed with Wigan aren't you 🤣. If he wasn't on the slide he wouldn't have been at Warrington in the first place.

I wasn't the one who came straight on to denigrate an England player because they were picked over one from my team.

Denigrate? Oh please. I replied to a post agreeing with Dunbar and it was hardly denigrate.

I also criticised Bateman plenty too when he played for Wigan and we should have never signed him second time around. I mean its all there on this forum if you care to check. He was far from the player he was even then, never mind now.

Thing is I can post objectively without the rose tinted spectacles when it comes to Wigan players. You have long proven that you can't and your jealousy and hatred always shines through.
