The Young Ones

Blackadder

The New Statesman

League of Gentlemen

Peep Show

Shameless

The Thick of It

Not Going Out

I have mixed views about Only Fools on Horses, Overall, liked it, David Jason was great, so were the side characters but I couldn't stand Rodney, I didn't like the way he treated Trigger, we all know Tigger was as thick as pig muck but Rodney wasn't the brightest, even though he had 2 GCE's 🤣 Also , I don't know if I'm the only one who wanted to here more of Uncle Albert's "During the War " stories🤣

I don't think there's been a mention for the absolute comedy genius that is The Royle Family. Also huge shout out to Stath Lets Flats for contemporary brilliance.

I think I watched one episode of Stath Lets Flats a while back but I have been meaning to give it a proper watch. A show you would definitely recommend?

It's a very specific type of humor which I can't really describe but it's one of the funniest things I've ever watched.

Early Doors, Royle Family, OFAH (particularly with Grandad), Rising Damp to name but a few.

I also thought some of those comedy shows by "minorities" such as Goodness Gracious Me and The Real McCoy had some absolutely p!ss funny sketches. The 'going for an English' is pretty well known from GGM, and with good reason.

Forgot the brilliant Drop the Dead Donkey.

If your name was Tim and someone went around calling you Dwight, you'd probably get the ump too. Honestly I don't even remember Rodders being nasty to Trigger. It's been a few years since the last rewatch but it seemed like it's usually Del or Boycie talking down to Trig.

Uncle Albert was the worst part of the show I felt, for reasons stated below.

Agree about the grandad years with OFAH. Even though many of the classic episodes aired during the Uncle Albert years, Lennard Pearce had excellent delivery and fit the role perfectly.

Uncle Albert's whole shtick never resonated, though I think part of that is down to the character Sullivan created. Buster Merryfield could have done a more toned-down version, but perhaps Sullivan didn't want to come across as if he was just replacing Pearce like-for-like.

Lennard Pierce was superb as grandad and it's such a pity he passed away too soon. His reaction to the whole chandelier episode was absolutely comedy gold in itself. A sort of childlike innocence about how it was nothing to do with him. Just superb. 👏🏻👏🏻

And that's not even to mention the numerous other hilarious lines he delivered with such aplomb.

Anything by Victoria Wood , Little Armadillos , Still Game , Early Doors.

From across the pond I always found I Luv Lucy hilarious and of course Frasier.

My late night weekend watching (post beer) of late has been The Royal Family. Never appreciated it first time around and not still not a favourite, but definitely appreciating some of the writing and nuance in the humour this time around.

Very similar selection to all the others here one show I haven’t seen mentioned though unless I’ve missed it. Ghosts which for me is up there with anything in the last few years.

Pretty much all the classics have been mentioned. In no particular order, my faves are:

Only Fools

Father Ted

I'm Alan Partridge

Peep Show

The Office (UK and US)

Blackadder

Royle Family

Phoenix Nights

There are loads of other good ones like Derry Girls, but the classics are ones you can watch again and again.

I was surprised not to see a mention of Gavin and Stacey. Maybe it's a bit mainstream, and I get that Cordon is a polarising figure but it's objectively a good show and very rewatchable.

It also made me realise that we're perhaps seeing the death of a certain type of mainstream sitcom that can command a Christmas special watched by a huge portion of the country on prime tine BBC 1. Now Gavin and Stacey is done, I genuinely can't think of one that even has the potential of filling that slot on the horizon.

you mean comedy that is genuinely funny? problem is these days people are trying to be funny with a sort of "look at me. arent I  funny?" approach - trouble is the woke modern stuff "says nothing to me about my life"

If I had to do a top ten -

Blackadder (series 2,3,4 - in that order)

Yes Minister/PM

The Thick of It

Fawlty Towers

Porridge

Dad's Army

Steptoe & Son

One Foot in the Grave

Red Dwarf

Reggie Perrin

Probably not quite top ten but a couple of episodes of Allo Allo is very palatable Sunday evening viewing nowadays on whatever Sky channel shows it back to back, perfect thing to put thoughts of the upcoming work week out of my mind.

Pleased to see Chelmsford 123 mentioned above. I remember that from when I was pretty young and it being amongst the first bits of lateish night tv I was able to watch and I'm very fond of it. I might hunt it down to see how it has held up vs my juvenile memories.
