I guess it depends on what field you work in. I'm in Civil engineering and its certainly not doom & gloom. My parent company has just had one of its best trading years ever. In my part of the UK business we've secured the highest level of future workload ever in the history of this business group, we're recruiting the highest number of graduates & apprentices we've ever taken on in one year and we've got a long list of vacancies we just cant fill.

As an industry we've certainly been through some very bad times but now certainly isn't one of them.

GROWTH IN UK AND EUROPE ENSURES BENTLEY’S THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR ABOVE 10,000 CARS

  • Double-digit increase for Europe; gains in UK, Middle East, South Korea and Japan
  • UK established as second highest selling country
  • British industrial success – 85% exported around the world
Crewe, England 12th January 2016 -  Bentley Motors delivered 10,100 cars in 2015, following double-digit growth in Europe, strong performance in Bentley’s UK home market and North America retaining its position as the number one region. This helped Bentley achieve its third consecutive year of selling more than 10,000 cars.

At an average selling price of £150K this means EUE of  £1.5 billion

In terms of oli prices, you will have no doubt calculated the benefit to the UK economy of  40% lower pump prices. Or would you rather pay £1.40 a litre than £1 a litre?

1. Fall in value of pharmaceutical output. The nation must be getting healthier.

2. Fall in oil price . Hlesp the lower paid. Do you support this or not?

3. RBS haven't called me yet, but the guy that wrote that piece also wrote this piece http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/economics/12074226/The-worlds-political-and-economic-order-is-stronger-than-it-looks.html

4. I can't see UK enemployment rising to the EU average

The EU-28 unemployment rate was 9.1 % in November 2015

The UK unempoyent rate was 5.2 in September 2015

Good.  I'm glad there's nothing to worry about.

Is it really that simple for some people?  We're OK in some areas therefore there's no problem?  Just as in 2008, the hit to the UK will come from without first.  Then the dodgy things in the banking sector that no longer need to be investigated will come back and hit us again.  Then the last six years of deck-chair shuffling by Cameron and Osborne will be shown up for what it really is.  Cameron and Osborne are no better than Brown and deserve to be treated identically.

Then we have that EU referendum coming up that really is too close to call.  I think, and hope, that it'll come down on the side of staying in but that's nowhere near guaranteed.  If it does go for an EU exit then those car stories above will just stop and reverse.  Britain makes an outstanding manufacturing base for western European car markets but that'd stop quickly once the EU became an external market rather than internal.

Then you have the US where lots of incredulous outsiders are staring at a Trump machine that has an outside chance of steamrolling into the White House at the back end of this year.

It's a damnably scary time now, we're one or two idiot decisions globally away from rolling back the economic outlook to 2008 again.  And those idiot decisions seem to be happening with frightening regularity.

Chinese stock market is interesting...

I like the part where they make up the projections at the start of the year and then at the end admit they didn't come close so anyone trading with them gets screwed.

But it's okay because petrol is 99.9p a litre and none of Britain's future infrastructure or investment is dependent on the Chinese figures being accurate and continuing to grow.

get one? Your feet wouldn't reach the pedals.

Let's return to the days when Rolls Royce Motors made fewer than 2000 cars a year, made a loss, as was on the verge of closure, threatening big job losses in Crewe and in all the subcontractors and suppliers.

Much better than today with 3,600 employees in Crewe, 82 suppliers are located within a 50 mile radius of the factory, etc etc etc.

Bentley has also  £800 million for its new SUV creating 1,000 new jobs in Crewe.

Maybe we should just let all refugees and migrants from all countries in. That'll solve everything.

I'm not one of those titchy blokes who gets an enormous car as a penis-substitute.

That's why they make those motors West of the Pennines.

But that has always been the case.  We have always been great in some areas, good in others, average in others and dismal in others.  Our music industry is powering forward; our IT industry is powering forward; lots of things in this country are doing very well indeed.  That should be recognised and rejoiced over.  We could be like Greece.

All the evidence is that the UK will survive better than most of Europe in the coming years and the rising minimum wage will certainly be a massive help along with low unemployment figures. A second global downturn genuinely means the return of Fascism, Communism and war to the European mainland so I really can't see staying the EU being the best way to avoid trouble.

Bad news for the forum's "end of the world is nigh" wailers and gnashers of teeth. Today, Siemens have announced around 100 job vacancies at their new Humber facility. This faciliy when fullly operational, will employ around 1,000 people.

Meanwhile in Yorkshire... a single mum whose house flooded is not getting paid for the time she took off work to move her children and few remaining possessions to a safe house. She now has to rebuild her life AND has lost a week and a half's pay. She's too scared to name the company, for fear of losing her job.
In Tadcaster, split in two by the collapse of the bridge, 'feudal' landlord Humphrey Smith (Sam Smith's brewing dynasty) is holding the town to ransom. He refuses to allow a temporary footbridge on his land unless his design for the rebuilt bridge is adopted. Townsfolk too scared to even boycott his beer because their livelihoods depend on him.
Back in York, a restaurant brand - part of a group with revenues of $13 billion - was also hit by flooding. Staff have been battling to be picked to clean the contaminated flood waters out of the restaurant - or they don't get paid at all while they're laid off.
The energy companies pocket billions and let your grandma freeze to death in her home.

BMA Union hijacked, political strike, misrepresenting the new contract.

Firemen and women resisting change and efficiency improvements as usual

Winter Fuel Payments, Cold Weather Allowance. Warm Home Discount Scheme continue.

Left-wing propaganda still spouted on public forums.

Why is it left wing propaganda to question why services and benefits aimed at the poorer half of society are cut repeatedly under "austerity" while those in the top 10% of society have seen the benefits of six years of tax cuts?
