Obituary in the Guardian for John Foggin, who died a few months ago aged eighty. Great poet, teacher, teacher of teachers, Batley Bulldogs fan and granddad of David Foggin-Johnston currently of the Bradford Bulls.

I love the line "if the Isle of Skye had a rugby league team he would have moved there for good"

"I am the avenging angel; I come with wings unfurled, I come with claws extended from halfway round the world. I am the God Almighty, I am the howling wind. I care not for your family; I care not for your kin. I come in search of terror, though terror is my own; I come in search of vengeance for crimes and crimes unknown. I care not for your children, I care not for your wives, I care not for your country, I care not for your lives." - (c) Jim Boyes - "The Avenging Angel"

Yarwood was only in his 30s at the peak of his fame. He seemed older.

Impressionism is something that seems to rise and fall in terms of popularity. Hardly see it on TV now - you have to listen to radio 4 satire shows.

Danny Baker occasionally reviews phoney-sounding anecdotes and terrible writing in celebrity autobiographies on his Patreon channel, and most of them are far-fetched and clearly fictional.

He struggled to mine much fun from Yarwood's book. According to Mike, nothing much interesting ever happened to him, the money didn't make him happy, he didn't like the person that fame made him at his height and the only anecdote he could recall is not only a total dud, but happened to someone he was dining with, not him. A bit of a downer.

Belated post. Francis Monkman

I've checked back and can't find a mention of him earlier.

Anthony Francis Keigwin Monkman (9 June 1949 – 12 May 2023) the English rock, classical and film score composer, and a founding member of both the progressive rock band Curved Air and the classical/rock fusion band Sky.

It was only a couple of months ago that a good friend of mine gave me his picture disc of Curved Air's Airconditioning album released in 1970.

The vinyl album still plays well. It's a great looking picture disc.

Here's my Curved Air vinyl - Airconditioning.

Francis Monkman died of cancer aged 73 on 12th May this year.

A former football coach who abused boys has died. I'm not even going to use his name but he can rot in hell.

Shows my age when i read that Sir Michael Gambon had died , immediately brought back memories of the Dennis Potter drama "The Singing Detective" that was on the telly in the 80`s as opposed to the Harry Potter role that everyone relates to now .    RIP Sir Michael .

Layer Cake was a good one of his , no formal training as an actor just backed himself till Sir Larry spotted him and took him on , the rest is history.

He knew so little about acting that, when Olivier auditioned him, Gambon did a scene as the title character from Richard III because he didn't know that it was one of Sir Larry's most famous roles.

He could throw ‘em

He certainly knew how to take a penalty! No stuttering run up for him, just a fast 10 yards and hammer it. It worked nearly every time. Thanks for the memories, Franny.
