Looks a strong squad to start the season with Roach and Butterworth in from Huddersfield. Wouldn’t like to pick a starting 6 from the 11 forwards in there. Hopefully we hit the ground running and come back with the 2 points. Good luck boys. Utt

I personally wouldn’t use any of the duel reg lads this week as I would rather give our own lads a shot to earn there spot 1st duel reg should only come into place with injuries etc

With him pencilled in for us I was watching Butterworths highlights clips and he certainly has got some good attributes from dummy half . Reading the Bradford fans they were pretty gutted he left , one saying he was among the best young players they’d produced

Newcastle Thunder v Doncaster almost ready for kick off on Ourleague

I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimension, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave Hadfield - Independent 25th August 1996.

Newcastle 26 Doncaster 32 final score.  Newcastle playing with the strong wind in first half were 22 -  4 up at halftime and Doncaster’s defence inte last 10 minutes of that half was rubbish.  In the second half Newcastle never turned up and their defence was abysmal and Donny were just the opposite to their first half performance.

Cause some headaches picking a 17 from that lot. You would think Butterworth will be a cert as a replacement hooker.

I can understand butterworth, but roach is a bit odd, with the props we already have ??  But what do I know utt

Bit of a shock that one I was expecting thunder to be up there this season,  was that their first team that got hammered by haven last week ?

If ever there was a game of two halves, there was some poor defence on show. Credit to donny though especially on the artificial pitch, looked a completely different team in the second half.

The race is not always to the swift nor the battle to the strong, but thats the way to bet!

We spent the week before training on a local 4g pitch. No stone unturned. Also wouldn't underestimate the effect of the wind. Severely reduced our last play options in 1st half. Hand on heart wasn't too concerned at h/t.

That's probably one of the best squads we have started with for many a year, we aren't the best of starters so I'm still not confident, we couldn't have picked a worst fixture to kick off with IMO. No doubt it will be another nerve racking afternoon pacing up and down in the kitchen. Best of luck lads UTT

As has been said, Donnys defence was shocking first half and Thunders equally as bad  second half. Teams who slack off for 20 minutes or more make it hard going so today's game will give us a better idea of who can keep their intensity the longest.. This is a tough start with Oldham slight favourites, but with Fui and Sam to come in a defeat wouldn't be a disaster.
