Good signing he looks like the sort of player we will be able to add to the team.Top SL players would be difficult to get with our finances.I saw him play for Hull FC against KR at last seasons Magic Weekend and he scored two tries.😁.Happy for a change.

Anyone know if Ellis is related to Simon or Spencer Longstaff ?  I think Spencer played a few games for us in the 90's and SImon played for a few clubs - from memory including Cas and Fax.  I remember them from Carleton High school in Ponte.  They were a bit younger than me.  Their dad was Paul Longstaff who was a decent player for HKR in the 60s and 70s

Ellis is Spencer's son, and therefore Simon's nephew and Paul's grandson.

Paul's brother Gordon Longstaff also played for Fev. Ellis's great uncle.

Looking at various reports we have paid a transfer fee for ellis which tells me we really think he can bring something to the party

From reading what Wire/Hull fans say, he’s got a big engine, and puts in great effort although he’s not on the big size. Looks to have an eye for a try as well. Obviously we aren’t going to beable to sign high class SL players, but Longstaff looks SL quality and hopefully will add some energy to our pack, and he’s young.

It makes me laugh when people say he's not on the big size but what do they want ellis is a 6 footer

I wonder what they all  think about JD

Yeah that’s plenty big enough for a second rower, and I didn’t think he looked small on the videos. I mean Brad Fash is only 5 10.

Featherstone Rovers have entered the race for Leeds Rhinos star Blake Austin. Rugby League Live can reveal the Championship outfit has made an ambitious play for the livewire halfback, whose future at Headingley continues to look unclear.

Featherstone are hopeful of securing promotion to Super League for the first time in their history and their recruitment plans reflect that. Austin has been circled as a top target for next season. They have held talks with his representatives and have an interest in bringing him to Post Office Road in 2024.

Sounds like Nathan Massey will be signing for next season

Ok if we are still in The Championship but not Super League.Nothing against the player he is a hard worker who always tries his best but not for me.

Austin would be a good signing if we are promoted he has a decent varied kicking game and can move the ball round the field. Also pace over a short distance which we are missing at half back this season.

We are going to need replacement middles next season whichever division we are in, and they won't be easy to come by because there is so much competition for even ordinary guys. Must be every chance that Lockwood, Kopczak and Moors are on their final season with us, especially if we get promoted.

Yes but if we are to stay up we need better than Massey (who i like because he is a honest player).I know a few players will not play in  SL probably Ford and Chizzy not up to the standard we will require. Then we will need a winger with pace last one i can remember is Owen Simpson.

True PH but do we need someone who will be 35 replacing them I'm sure there will be more Longstaff's and Cozza's knocking about who want to step up if not there's down under  to plunder especially when Arama goes home and tells everyone how great FEV is

We got one S Evans got pace to burn but doesn't get a game maybe we are saving him for SL:kolobok_laugh1:

Perhaps, but who though? I really don't see many SL-ready middles at other Championship clubs, we are going to struggle to recruit NRL players at that position given we can't guarantee a SL spot at this stage, and we are already running over our 7-player overseas limit if we do make SL. Whether we like it or not, the relegated team (which could well be Cas) is likely to be our best option at certain difficult-to-fill positions.

AFAIK our current players who would class as overseas/non-fed would be something like Aekins, Chisholm, Kheirallah, Ford, Yei, Taylor, Jones, Moors, Leilua (not sure about Springer). We wouldn't keep all of them, for sure, but we'd keep a good few and wouldn't have many spare places for new overseas players, and are more likely to add overseas players in a skill position such as Austen at half back.
