This is great news and really good to see. The game in France really needs to grow its base and become more attractive to sponsors, broadcasters and potential fans and players.

What it really needs to do first is give 100% support to existing clubs get a couple of old established clubs like Carpentras and Salon back in Elite 1 to make it a 12 team comp again and work on improving Elite 2 and beyond.

Probably as good as place as any but it's good to see Toulouse taking the field with 8 lads developed through their training centre. The French game just needs a few more clubs like this doing the same. From Google translate:

Here is the composition for the meeting on the lawn of Newcastle!
👏 With 8 players who have passed through the Olympian training center

Who is Baloup?

also, why wouldn’t Lyon restart the old club to retain the history rather than start a new club?

They are restarting an old club, it’s in the article. Though tbf is there really any difference between starting a new club and ‘re-forming’ one that folded years ago.

I think there is Eddie. Depending on the size of the club and it’s history, that could be very valuable.

Without knowing any of the history of Lyon XIII, in general, I think a relaunch gives a club the power to re-establish any positive relations and links which may have disappeared in the latter years of existence.

Personally, yes, I think the history is important to retain. There was a post earlier suggesting they’re starting a new club, not restarting the former. Can anyone clarify?

They are starting a new club, just using the name and logo of the old club. It sounds like there’s no continuity between the two, like if someone formed Bramley now it would be a new club.  That said I do like their use of the history.

Lyon was always a basket case between Elite 1 and Elite 2 without good juniors coming though will always struggle good luck to them hope it works
