All this nonsense about being in Europe and a City is just desperation by Houles and is completely irrelevant. This probably for a whole different thread but it appears to have been the case for a very long time that the game as a whole is held back the limited international presence and perhaps hasn’t had the profile of 30 years or so ago, when SL came into existence, and was able to attract the deal it did at that point. France for various reasons are not able to go it alone, although I appreciate that there are attempts to get a pro comp going there again. If we care at all about growing as a sport then the international game has to be an important element of it, and not just 4 yearly contests against Australia and New Zealand. The NRL continues to be criticised about its commitment to the international scene, but it’s no accident that the game in NZ, Fiji, PNG, Samoa, Tonga and the rest has grown in profile through the players of those countries appearing in the NRL. Most SL clubs apart from the Dragons have now had one or two France players in their ranks at some point, and even signed one or two younger players into academies, which is solely as a result of the exposure those players have had via the Dragons in SL. Adding Toulouse will add another player pathway for French youngsters to see and enjoy the game, and hopefully play it, not only with Toulouse but other SL clubs as well, and contribute to the French national team in time, ergo giving the English team a challenge. There’s plenty of good young French teams at juniors ages that are just lost to the game as a result of lack of pathways. And yes, same argument for London, but with the benefit of the English game and team. A whole diffident audience of kids playing and enjoying the sport. There was a list shared recently of the origin of SL players and London was well into the top half, despite their yo-yo existence. Read back what I said instead of putting your own version on it. Non sequitur and strawman really, you are not addressing one of your employees. Whether I think digital marketing is pointless or not is not the issue, again if one does not partake of it, what of it, oh that's right IMG will not give your club any points FFS. It’s a ridiculous question Harry, because the answer is obvious. And then you compound it again in your second paragraph above. Digital Marketing in modern sport is really important, that doesn’t mean someone who doesn’t look at is less of a fan, it just means you’re a different demographic of fan, and we need to appeal to all demographics, I’m not sure why that needs pointing out to you. 4

RigbyLuger Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 IMG can't magic up TV deals for the second tier of a minor sport. They're not miracle workers. The clubs were right to turn down Viaplay, but should have been more proactive in streaming their own games. Plenty of other sports in this country manage it, and charge. 1

The Bulls took quite a few fans to Toulouse for the semi with a weeks notice for travel, if Toulouse want to be in SL then at least get up for a final where points are at stake and support your team. Which part of the ground have they been allocated?

Whilst I don’t disagree with anything you say we cannot keep comparing ourselves to the NRL. We need to focus on our own game and grow that financially, the NRL is awash with money and still growing but our income is contracting and has reduced nearly 50% in the last 15 years with pretty much the same teams give or take and that includes London and Catalans. We seem to be the only real nation that sees the importance in international games and that’s because we are desperate for money. I love the International game personally and want it to succeed, my childhood involved going to all the GB test games but if we are being honest the French national team have gone backwards in the last 30 years, nationally they couldn’t be bothered to host the World Cup as they don’t take Rugby League seriously and Australia generally don’t concern themselves with anything other than the NRL. I guarantee if we had £40/50 million TV income per season we would see a 14 or 16 team SL including London and 2 french teams and no loop fixtures and this forum wouldn’t keep rehashing expansion threads. Rugby League just can’t afford it at the moment and deep down I think most of us thought IMG would use their global reach and expertise to help with this and then take a percentage, Sky will continue to pay as little as they can whilst they hold all the cards. 1

Ok, I am just pointing out that there was only an offer to televise the Championship and they rejected it. The fact the final isn't on TV has nothing to do with it being a "meaningless" game, and everything to do with no TV company being that interested in the league. 2

Because as Mons Houles said himself it is all based on 'potential', I would have thought all those in favour of IMG's spreadsheet method would realise that the criteria scores are based on 'actualities' attaining the points and not the perceived what might be. 1
