with the Broncos shipping in 40 points last week and 50 points this week with 2nd choice FB Sailor at the back - no wonder he has been offered to SL instead of interest from other NRL teams - interesting signing for Saints

He's absolutely not the fault for their defensive woes.

I'm not sure how you can blame a full back for conceding 90 points. Generally a team has played poorly all round with things going badly wrong with the defensive line to have scores put on you like that.

Dressing room has gone. They've gone from being uber and perhaps over the top in their 'connection' to a disconnected rabble losing 5/6 on the trot mid season.. and then pumped at home by Gold Coast.

Walters fault?

Trenty B is joining the coaching staff next year... 🙂

I think lack of interest from any NRL club tell's you all you need to know about him and obviously no NRL club think he's worth a punt

If your fullback is having to even be in the position to make more than a handful of tackles in a game then the team has already failed and it’s nothing to do with the FB. If he’s dropping kicks left right and centre fair enough but it’s just not the modern FBs job to be saving try after try through last ditch tackles. It’s an almost exclusively offensive position.

Or it tells you about the number of full backs available in Australia now.

The idea that players coming here from NRL in their mid 20s must be no good has become tiresome, given the number of players with a similar age and experience profile that have come here and done very well

It is an interesting move for Briers. You would have thought he may stick out in the NRL until a Head Coach position comes up, but to come "home" to what is basically the same job as he was in at Brisbane, when he would have a lot more resources on offer in the NRL.

Perhaps homesick?

Anyone know where Pélissier is off too? He is leaving TO at the end of this year.

Maybe back to the Pizza business.

Eloi quitting TO

At his age i'd assume somewhere in Elite 1. Big soft spot for Eloi, was great fun to watch for Leigh in 2017 and was part of the contingent that Cunningham foolishly jettisoned leading to the 2018 disaster. Instead we ended up with one game wonder Kurt Baptiste.

It does seem awfully difficult for an English coach to get a NRL head coach job. As you say to swap a NRL assistant coach job, at the biggest rugby club in the world, for one back home just seems like he wants to come back home.

Always loved watching Eloi playing for London over the years - Not sure how many years he spent with us, but he was always a good player.

London have a had a a few French players that have a bit of "spark" over the years. Rinaldi, Eloi, Miloudi. I think there is one I am forgetting.

Gigot had a bit of maverick spark before he disappointingly tailed off towards the end

That is who I was forgetting to mention. We had Gigot over two different periods in his development, I remember he came to us in his teenage years, IIRC he played in our reserves match against Wakefield which I happened to see live when we went up for the first team. He played great, but we then released him for some off field reasons.

He then re-joined when we were in the Hive years and I believe we then got rid again for off-field issues.

This morning Kyle Feldt is showing Saints what they will get next year in the space of two plays.

He was in the clear around his own 20 after collecting a loose ball and at least 3 of the Bullbogs team would have caught him before the opposition 30.

And then two plays later he scores in the corner with an accomplished finish.

As a winger, he pretty much has no pace, but he is one of the best wingers in the world when it comes to finishing.

Reminds me of Pat Richards a bit, very reliable

1. As I understand it Briers doesn’t want a head coaching gig, as he thinks he doesn’t have the right temperament for it. He sees head coaching as needing to be hyper detail orientated week by week and game by game, and he much prefers working with individuals and “bigger picture” targets (like “make the attack better”).

2. He would have stayed in Aus but his wife is homesick, and already come back over.

3. He wouldn’t have come to Saints if it weren’t for his relationship with Wellens. Suggestion is that this has played a part in Wellens getting an extension.

I certainly get that not all coaches want to be a head coach and I know this of others too. It's a completely different role and skillset, and frankly not very good for those that just want to focus on the real technical details. It's also more work and longer hours too.

I think there has to be some reason Saints are keeping Wellens because it isn't for whats happening on the field!

I think you've got Barthau in mind.
