Grand Final Entertainment

I'm not a fan of having extra 'entertainment' at sporting cup finals etc.. if the match itself isn't enough to attract you or provide sufficient entertainment we have a problem.

It's not just that, though, in my view. Yes, it's about creating a "tradition", creating an "event". Success by association. It's also about spreading the arrival time of fans across a longer period of time, reducing queuing a bit on trams, buses.

(On a personal note, it's not for me but I can't deny it to 70 thousand others. OT is uncomfortable, the sound system is bad, really bad as and its home to Trafford Borough's emetic agent.)

Your last para is a real issue imo. It doesn't lend itself well to what we currently do. We did used to have the pre-match entertainment on the pitch, but I think there were some issues with MUFC on the back of some bad weather one year, meaning we moved it off the pitch. There is also the fact that we do now warm up on the pitch u til quite close to kick off.

But tucked away in that corner is pretty rubbish, and I've always watched from that end. It doesn't help that the stadium doesn't have big screens and as you say the sound is poor, so it just isn't an immersive experience.

Sadly, Bernard Cribbins and his community singing is no longer available....

We don't believe in modern things like pre-match entertainment round here.

Well it cannot be any worse than the rugby league world cup final the entire entertainment experience was MINUS ZERO.

Cool story and entirely relevant.

A real positive of being on the front foot and arranging this well in advance means that the ads for the Grand Final feature the Lathums as part of the package. Quite often we announce at the last minute, and this seems far better. I do still think that the actual presentation of our Grand Final entertainment is pretty rubbish, but the organisation appears to be slightly better so far this year.

Its peak Rugby League, and I don't mean this as a dig at you, that better organisation is just booking a band a little earlier.

😆 it really is though isn't it? It's not unusual for us to announce this stuff quietly just before the final instead of tapping I to neutrals and Co who maywbe attracted to an overall event.

Small, simple things. Do them well. Then do them well again. And again. And again.

Not that this is relevant in any way, but the entertainment at the RLWC Final was the very good Heather Small of M People fame.
