OK so they have money to fly a team of Aussies to France for a jolly but don't have any money to develop the game in Lebanon. To be honest they should just play all their fixtures in Sydney.

Why would any team travel then.

Was out mountain hiking yesterday with Dave Foti from Catalans sports tours and over lunch we discussed this.

David (Who is in the travel business) pointed out that air fare deposits would have to have been paid a while back along with hotels.

Conclusion is that maybe nothing was ever arranged and then it collapsed though lack of sponsorship.

Flights now even economy from OZ are a min of £ 2500 and thats with airlines like Air China Air India etc business class are a min of £7/8000 upwards.

Are they going to replace Lebanon with another team or have zero games except for Ukraine v France elite?

If so Bernard will be happy.

They will at least have a second match - The World Cup qualifier against Ukraine is a semi-final, the winner takes on the winner of Wales v Serbia in the final for a place in the World Series next year.

Even if they were to somehow lose to Ukraine, there is a 3rd place play-off with the loser of the other semi-final.

Not sure where you’re booking your flights from - can get economy Sydney to Paris return for around £1100 on Etihad, Emirates, arriving 6th Oct departing 30th

France are still playing Wales in Perpignan on October 26th, and Wales v Serbia in Carcassonne on October 22nd

In fairness, there is a decent number of low-key official internationals happening in the next couple of months. I *think* we have the following

September

  • Netherlands v Scotland (Men)
  • Netherlands v Ireland (Men)
  • Serbia v Netherlands (Men)
  • Italy v Malta (Men)
  • Kenya v NIgeria (Women)

October

  • Wales v Jamaica (Men)
  • Greece v Ireland (Women)
  • Wales v Serbia (Men, in France)
  • France v Ukraine (Men)
  • England v Samoa x2 (Men) (Assuming the NRL doesn't cancel it)

November

  • England v Wales (Women)
  • England v France (Wheelchair)
  • Canada v Jamaica (Men, in USA)
  • USA v Canada (Men)
  • USA v Jamaica (Men)

December

  • S. Africa v USA x2 (Men)

It's the women's world cup qualifiers, which I have incorrectly shown as men rather than women.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_Women's_Rugby_League_World_Cup_qualification

There is a Canada v Jamaica mens game in Toronto too in October I believe.

(Actually, looks like I could've saved myself the bother - the fixtures are here:

And this is my major reservation about the NRL having free reign over the UK game. They're not committed enough to developing International RL.

It's not gonna be good for the international game

The NRL is not interested in buying Super League.

It offers no value to them and they are at differnet ends of spectrum with the future of the game.

The NRL wants to expand while the RFL/Super League wants to contract.

I wouldn't say it offers no value - There is quite a large player base in the UK.

True, but how many of them are capable of stepping up the the NRL standard?

They certainly won't be interested in a competion played primarily along the M62 corridor, and some clubs want the Catlans out which would make it a 12 team competion along the M62 corridor.

Quite a lot more than you think.

I agree with you. Somehow RL in the UK has managed to defeat itself. Not the fault of the media or RU this time either. It's all self inflicted.

The NRL would never buy SL

If the NRL decide to do something it will be on their own

Surely if the NRL buys SL then it is them doing it on their own?

It won't, but if it did it was annoy some Super League clubs by wanting teams in London and France, but it won't happen.

Shocking and yet some people still kid themselves that the NRL are good for international Rugby League:

Absolutely horrendous yet again. They have no idea how to run an international competition as they are so insular it hurts.

In 20 years time when all the kids play soccer they'll be sat there wondering what went wrong.

So you are all satisfied that the big bad NRL are to blame here, rather than the blame lying with one #### weak French federation or perhaps the responsibility lying with one even less credible Lebanese federation?

The NRL have a long track record on this front.

"Due to circumstances beyond the control of the Federation, the two international matches scheduled between the French team and the Lebanese team, on Sunday October 13, 2024 at 3 p.m. at the Balussou Stadium in Pamiers and on Saturday October 19, 2024 at 8 p.m., at the Municipal Stadium in Albi, are canceled.

The decision is motivated by the fact that Lebanese players playing in the Australian professional league have not been released by their clubs, an essential condition for these matches to take place."

Erm... do you have any evidence that contradicts the position of the FFR? It is clear as day as far as I am concerned.

How about France play an SL Exiles team? Would be a good challenge for them

And do you think any SL overseas players would be interested in such a game? I don't.

Maybe not unless they got paid for it. Just thinking of a competitive fixture for France now the Lebanon series is cancelled
