langpark Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I am so impressed with how much work Hull KR have put in since this match was announced. They have made several trips late last year and now they have personnel there all week. Yesterday they delivered coaching session to over 200 schoolkids. If ever there was an example of an "on the road" match being done right, then this is it. 21 1
langpark Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 Netherlands Origin match as the curtain-raiser is also a great way to include the local community. For those that are unaware, Dutch RL has over 20 years of history. There are 5 teams in the men's competition, and there are bits of women's and youth activity going on as well. 7
Eddie Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Looks great. Hopefully plenty of KR fans will make the trip, I def would if I supported them. Anyone know what the state of origin is, ie how their players are divided into teams?

Not sure which of the 5 clubs are considered East and West but I am sure they have found a way to split the players fairly evenly. Prior to that there is also women's origin, and Hull Legends vs Dutch Legends. Both seem to be just 20 min halves. Great to see such a full program, both Hull KR and Dutch RL are really giving this event a push! (take note, Cas vs Valencia). https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1132936261957045&set=pb.100057220459683.-2207520000 5
langpark Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 50% of ticket sales so far have been to Dutch locals (I suppose that means anyone living in Netherlands) and a crowd of 2,500 is expected. Which should generate a decent atmosphere as the venue capacity is 4000. https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/hull-kr-set-break-rugby-9880336 8
EggFace Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I really want to go to that as I love Amsterdam, Netherlands and the beaches.....I feel like i'm in some sort of alternative part of the UK. 1
Just Browny Posted January 22 Posted January 22 It's certainly a fascinating venture, good on both clubs for doing it. I guess it's not much different to doing the sort of warm weather tour other clubs do (Warrington are currently in Tenerife), except there's a game in it and the fans can get involved. Interested in whether Rovers think there is a market there for them from which they can attract fans or players; it seems unlikely to me but what do I know. I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.
Gav Wilson Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Me and 3 mates are getting the Eurostar there on Friday for the weekend. Really looking forward to it! Its crazy that despite never having watched my men's team play in Super League, I will have watched them play in England, Wales, France, Canada and the Netherlands! (I was too young to watch them in Russia...) 14 @GavWilson

(I was too young to watch them in Russia...) I wonder how many (if any) clubs have managed more countries. I guess a few English clubs have played games in Australia. A few have played at challenge cup finals in Scotland at Murrayfield. There was a Wigan v Leeds charity shield game in Dublin and Widnes, Huddersfield, Workington & Fev played a tournament in Ireland in the 1960s. A few other teams have played in Dublin and/ or Belfast too. I suppose the isle of Man could be considered too. Wigan, Warrington, Leeds, Halifax, Huddersfield played in the US. Fev played in Spain. 1
EggFace Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Would a dedicated round of Super League and Championship games tour work....think NRL and Las Vegas.

Amsterdam's pretty cold at this time of year, but I guess it still has its other attractions eh!! 1 1
Eddie Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I know it will never happen, but as there is zero chance of the Netherlands ever qualifying for the Yawnion World Cup it would be good if they converted to League en masse. They’d instantly be Europe’s third strongest nation. 1

Worzel Posted January 22 Posted January 22 More kids rugby coaching today... has there ever been a pro/semi-pro player anywhere with Dutch heritage? 2

NERugbyDad Posted January 22 Posted January 22 My eldest and his mate, aren't even Hull KR or York fans, are heading across for it. Jumping on the overnight ferry from North Shields tomorrow then coming back Monday. 6 1

Not sure where Joran Schoenmaker is knocking around now but he did sign for NW Crusaders at one point but didn't play a game. Not just heritage I believe, Netherlands born and raised.

Not a one or two season wonder 1
