  1. Pitch looking a right mess. Massive problem.

  2. Wow, that’s a real drop from the Hey Day for each of those clubs. There was a real feeling of growth in the region 2006 - 2012. Skolars jumped up. Hemel continued to grow and Saint Albans were killing it at the great facilities at Woollom. Even Luton Vipers were putting out a good squad and had a women’s team. Essex Eels were having a dig at a reasonable facility. Sth London Storm meanwhile we’re getting hundreds of kids from minis up at the Storm, Bulls, Hurricanes and one other weather themed club, whilst the seniors were going great. It is great to see that east division still active despite missing old club names like Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich Rhinos, Cambridge Eagles, St Ives Roosters and other short lived entities like Norwich City Saxons and Colchester. Fingers crossed for you Eddie. The more people you get active in any role at the club now, the better the chances of your sustainability. Kit man, runner, pitch volunteer, water boys, social coordinator, player manager, club manager, coaching manager, volunteer manager. Wishing you all the best mate.

  3. There is and has always been a fantastic appetite for the game in Leigh. But it is a pretty small place and there are established SL teams in every direction. This has always been the issue and it is hard to see how they sustainably get to the 8k minimum average you need to thrive in this division. None of that is to criticise or mock any of the efforts that are being made because Leigh are making the absolute best of their promotion on and off the field.

  9. Mansfield are the real enemy. They hate both clubs so it's been interesting to see which side of the fence they'd come down on. Turns out they hate Chesterfield more. Good.

  10. Linda Lewis was Rock royalty. Married outstanding guitarist Jim Cregan of Family and the Rod Stewart Band. She had a fantastic high voice but had a fragile personality; I don't think she could handle fame. A sad loss; apart from her talent, she was stunning looking. I'm 4 years younger than her but she always looked like a delicate kid sister that you'd want to protect.

  11. I think we should be looking at a more creative half back, Morgan’s great, but he’s not that type of player.

  12. AFL is eternal. It wasn't invented by mankind. God blesses indigenous Australians in the book of Genesis and commands "Go Forth and Fumble". Angel Gabriel descends to Uluru whereupon the rules are revealed in Dreamtime.

  13. Help me out please, as far as I can see Salford RD holdings is a dormant company that owns Salford city reds 2014 ltd which is £3m in debt. A Community co op has been set up to hold any cash raised which may, I dont know, have some tax benefits like gift aid and corporation tax. Does the share apply to the CoOp, why is SRD dormant, How many shares are available, can the CoOp control the business and if so what happens to existing shares and who pays the £3m debt or is this a classic roll it and move on scheme?? your help in allowing me understand it would be greatly appreciated

  16. Yeah would seem to make sense wouldn't it. I assume it's summer because it just always has been! I suppose in the early years the pitches in rural Ireland would have been unplayable in winter. Even now, trying to bounce the ball on a sodden pitch doesn't really work. Probably a big part of it now is there is no premier league in the summer so it gives the GAA that window to dominate the sporting landscape in Ireland from May-August

  17. The CEO doesn't retain control the entire board is going to resign after a fixed period. Then they're having elections to make up the new one with all shareholders having 1 vote and being eligible to stand. There's also a 5 year plan on the website, it's all been explained again I must ask people to read the documentation before commenting because we're just going round in circles.

  18. Just gotta win the final now. I think it shows a real flaw in the system if a team that gets over 100 points aren't allowed promotion but that's how playoffs work I guess.

  19. A tough game for the Vipers against a strong and experienced Bedford side, with a number of SCL players. Bedford went 12-0 up (3 tries) early on and the Vipers got it back to 16-10. Bedford ran away with it in the second half and won 46-14, a fair result, a great group of lads and good luck to them this season. I’ll see if I can follow Jon M’s instructions and get a couple of photos on tomorrow.

  23. Salford were the lowest supported club last year & they might well be again this time. Vying with Wakefield for the honour. Over the season, I doubt they will see much change at all. The fans arevery fickle. A run like the one Hull FC had & they would soon be sub 3k crowds.

  27. But i wasn't comparing against London, i'd love us to take national team games around the country, especially the capital, my point was more against the argument that having an international match in Huddersfield will probably draw a sparse crowd, there's no more evidence that Huddersfield will have a lower crowd than St Helens or Leeds. We have missed a trick by not taking one or even 2 to Newcastle or London and capitalising on the world cup but that's the RFL for you, much rather appease parochial northerners who probably won't go anyway than curious southerners or north easterners.

  28. I quite like that a lot of the clubs use Magic as a Charity round! I definitely think there should be a dedicated 'retro' round though

  29. No. The best line from Simon Johnson was (I paraphrase because I can't find it) "I could explain why Huddersfield is better than London but it is far too complex a discussion for twitter".

  30. So, just had a look at the seating at Huddersfield and it looks like the top tier of the Core stand isn’t open yet. Another case of the RFL not letting people book the seats they want until they decide the stand is fully open? I’ve been here before when England played New Zealand at the Olympic stadium in 2015. I wasn’t too chuffed about it then either. Is it so difficult to fully open a stadium that the RFL feel is right for this size of event?

  31. Paul, could you tell us more about this mess that is left behind after the world cup? Most people seem to think that it was neither a great success nor a great failure. I've only heard you suggest that it has left behind a 'mess' that could potentially threaten the game's financial standing in Britain. What are the details of what you've heard, and from where?

  34. Departing AFL CEO has announced that a Tasmanian franchise based in Hobart will become the 19th club to join the top division. The first fully professional football club in the small island state is due in the coming years with the AFL securing state and federal government funding for a new stadium in the state’s capital. This expansion raises further questions about the need for a 20th club, which many believe will be based in the growing northern suburbs of Perth.
