His cornet riff in Dippermouth Blues is the basis for much of what followed. “Few thought him even a starter. There were many who thought themselves smarter. But he ended PM, CH and OM. An Earl and a Knight of the Garter.” Clement Attlee.
Tongs ya bas Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 say what you like, but Cliff was a great rock and roll singer

Trojan Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 Louis's version of St James Infirmary is brilliant, but this is pretty good. Tom Jones has a great blues voice. Wasted at his peak in Vegas “Few thought him even a starter. There were many who thought themselves smarter. But he ended PM, CH and OM. An Earl and a Knight of the Garter.” Clement Attlee.
Trojan Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 Jools Holland and Dr John to a direct lift from Pete Johnson and Albert Ammons. Exciting stuff “Few thought him even a starter. There were many who thought themselves smarter. But he ended PM, CH and OM. An Earl and a Knight of the Garter.” Clement Attlee.
ivans82 Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 The Sensational Alex Harvey band did an album of covers "The Penthouse Tapes " some beauties on there . Delilah and Jacques Brels Next still my 2 favourites off earlier albums......like Mike Flowers Pops send up of Wonderwall , if only that it wound up the Gallagher brothers somewhat rotten apparently , and that`s always a good thing .
gogledd Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I haven't read the whole thread so apologies if I've repeated anyones choice. One of my personal favourites is 'Dub Side of the Moon' by Easy Star All-Stars. The whole of Floyds "Dark Side of the Moon" done in dub reggae - it really is superb. And not a p ss take but a homage. Last week I heard this and fell in love with it:

" The Guess Who " did a good version but " The Twiliters " have a rough and ready version of it on YouTube. The bit of film the goes with their version makes " Viagra " redundant.

IMO the best version ever committed to disk is the Pirates' live recording on "Out Of Their Skulls". 2 "I'm from a fishing family. Trawlermen are like pirates with biscuits." - Lucy Beaumont.

Moose Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Listened to this a few times and I'm still not quite sure if I like it. A Neil Young classic covered by a young lady, a guy on a trumpet and Joe Satriani.
