Toulouse v Rochdale. Dirty French - RFL appoint top ref to game

3 yellow cards to Rochdale. 1st half tactics were apparently shocking by Rochdale.

Feedback I had was that it was the dirtiest game Toulouse had played all year, even dirtier than the one earlier at Rochdale.   The ref was solid apparently.

In defense of the Rochdale players, they apparently played the full 80 mins and never gave up.

The Rochdale coach, Alan Kilshaw upset a lot of people as usual.  Blamed the touch judges.

If Rochdale win all their remaining games, and if Barrow loose to Toulouse in the final Super 8's game, Rochdale will go to Toulouse again for the final.

So there's a chance of 3 x dirty !!

Yes, it will be interesting to read the reports or even see a link to the game.

Yep, a lot of dirty tactics from Rochdale. The aproach was to slow down the game as much as possible, result was probably the longest first forty minutes in the history of RL with the Hornets trainer and water carriers etc coming on literally every minute to delay the play hence the low bitty first half. Second half Toulouse upped the pace as Rochdale tired. Toulouse were classy and the Hornets delaying tactics went out of the window when they realised their plan wasn't working due to tiredness.

Sad thing is Rochdale are a decent side with some quality players so why play such tactics ? A more attacking approach to the game would have yeilded much more success for them so here's hoping they change their approach if they return to play the final in a month's time.

For me the ref and linos were pretty good. Apparently the recording of the post-mach interviews shows coach Kilshaw blaming the officials for the 40 point losing margin claiming the officials weren't good enough to be at a top of the table clash.... Jamie Bloem has been a decent ref for a lotta years and I can't think of many better equipped refs at this level. Watch the video of the game and judge for yourselves.

Yep snowman 123,  looking forward to the final - get yerself over and enjoy the fun !

Yep, clearly too good at this level. Probably the same thing going to happen next season with the Canadians coming in which means there will  effectively be only one promotion place up for grabs ?

I just wonder if this will have a negative effect on the league ?

No oiseau but it will bring the miseries out on the forum but the same could be said about the quality of Pies at Wigan, P - R, the RFL etc etc etc etc! So absolutely nothing will change and not worth worrying about. ;)

nah Oxford, I was think more about the mood in the C1 - clubs with pretentions like Donny, York Hornets etc are being 'robbed' of a promotion place because of heavyweights 'walking' the C1 etc

Well you have a point, but imagine the squealing if they were parachuted straight into the championship

This is it, fans of those clubs are always going to be annoyed if someone comes in and beats them but it's better for them than if they get given a free pass. They'll still complain though but it's not their job to consider the future of the wider game.

Why should it. Some of these clubs have been playing for many years. They've had their chances and still have.

True enough Phil, the same voices would be heard condemning the 'preferential' treatment given to such clubs.

Anyone know the crowd figure? Thanks

The official figure for the TO13 v Hornets game was 1572 if I recall though this figure includes season ticket holders, many of whom are away on their summer hols. The figure also includes entry to the other adjoining rugby pitches within the complex.

Psychologically that's a hammer blow for Rochdale. If they go back for the final, I can't see them having any belief left that they could win

It was self-inflicted. The way to beat Toulouse at this level is to try to match them for line-speed and movement from the start because their superior fitness in the last half-hour has been the telling factor this season. Donny (twice) and York (twice) proved the point. The Hornet's tactics yesterday made them more frustrated than Toulouse. I would imagine the Rochdale side are hoping they don't have to return to France in the hope they will be able to win the play-offs later.

I think the clubs are more or less in agreement.

Or if the pies are rubbish at Wigan.

At first glance first player sin binned Toulouse player was in touch should have been a scrum to Hornets from kick off for second half first tackle Toulouse player bending Hornets player leg right back should have been a penalty to Hornets last Toulouse try came from a forward pass by Toulouse can see from the lines should have gone back for a knock on Toulouse scrum

And that's just from first glance

Toulouse are a good team and would still have won yesterday.

Not sure how they will survive on such low crowds surely they would be better in the French league getting decent crowds or is it the SL money they need

Success does not consists in never making blunders, but in never making the same one the second time.

XIII Catalans and UTC were getting the same crowds as Toulouse pre-2006. Hull KR were getting 1500-1800 in the old Third Division in the late 90s. Many people will not watch lower league sport.

"Referee and linesman not up to standard ?" No the coach is looking in the wrong places for why his team lost

"What was the real reason they lost ?" No they were just hammered by a better, faster side on the day.

Heard the attendance was around 1 500. Nobody's here in Toulouse during summer. It's incredibly hot and there's no beach, people are drained to Bordeaux/Montpellier/Aude/Perpignan.
