Niels
I think there have been too many horns this year. Every song seems to be jazzed up. To be honest I didn't realise it was pre recorded.
Trojan
I love it! I think Jools is a really talented pianist. But then I'm a sucker for boogie woogie piano https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLOj5yNvuiw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ne_U25ryLjc “Few thought him even a starter. There were many who thought themselves smarter. ckn
In my first New Year not spent with others, just me and the wife this year relaxing in peace and quiet, I've got BBC Alba on in the background and the ropey TV signal makes me think it's like the 1970s all over again... That said, it may just be the bottle of prosecco and substantial amounts of whisky... Griff9of13
I'm old enough to remember Andy, "Donald Where's Your Troosers?", Stewart's The White Heather Club being the highlight of NYE TV. Jools is infinitely more enjoyable than that! "it is a well known fact that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it." Northern Eel
I've appeared on one of his albums. It was one of the best experiences of my professional life. I love his music. Working with Ruby Turner and Beverley Knight was superb! I'm unapologetically biased. Happy New Year one and all.
Griff9of13
Oh jesus H Arkwright..... now that's stuck in my head Glad to know I wasn't alone in my suffering... And no, the off switch wasn't an option. I used to spend NYE with my grandparents as a kid, NYE was also my grandad's birthday, and the Andy Stewart show was compulsory viewing. Trojan
Ah, Jools "one tune" Holland. The man who killed Rhythm and Blues. The version of "Bring it on home to me" was the best I've heard since Sam Cooke “Few thought him even a starter. There were many who thought themselves smarter. But he ended PM, CH and OM. westlondonfan
I have mixed feelings about him. He was the original keyboard player of the band Squeeze and I will always like him for that. I saw him play at university in the eighties and his band were quite dull really and I really liked blues and jazz then.

Bah humbug, I'm going to bed, happy new year, you filthy animals! hardly once a year, his show has been on since 1992 and has seen some great acts come and go although i agree the new year shows are not what they where. also the beeb should be indebted to him as his show is one of their biggest earners. Trojan
Didn't hear it but I can't see it being better than Eric Burdon singing it. I bought the Animals version in 1965, and it's good, but IMO Sam Cooke's version is better. The B side of the Animals single is IMO their best recording of all https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IZYuv2rn3g “Few thought him even a starter. There were many who thought themselves smarter. Niels
I thought the guitar solo on Angels was the best musicianship of the night. Unfortunately Robbie Williams tried his best to ruin it - however the guitarist managed to bring out a little improvisation. It must have been galling for him to play so adroitly then hear Robbie unable to keep quiet. Did anyone else see it after the fireworks?

ckn
Where are you staying? At Piperdam, just north west of Dundee, towards Coupar Angus. Not our first choice of place, when we're here on our own we prefer staying at Strathyre, near Callander (west of Stirling). Piperdam is much better with friends, we usually get the big Foresters Exec lodges with one or more of our friend couples, it's big enough that we can still get plenty of peace. Last minute decision to take Christmas and New Year off so we had to take what was available. Heading home soon back to work and normal life...
