Notre Dame's great organ appears to have survived.

Which is good because we all love mighty instruments.

Good time to be any one of those with a right to work in France ...

The french unions will have a say on who works on the rebuild .

Having said that I have seen good stonemasons at work , fantastic skills .

He is a good man...things will improve and a very, very expensive rebuild will commence.   Donald Trump will probably try to get involved with his name on it someway though.  A classic good vs. evil scenario between the two men?

Yeh what it needs is a big neon sign saying trump cathedral

Firemen would have put the blaze out sooner but for the interventions of French officials, who insisted they could not enter a public building with their faces covered.

On the plus side, diners on the Rive Gauche were pleasantly surprised to find for once that their steaks were actually well done.

Why is there a call for donations from Macron? You would think that such a building owned by the French Government, would be insured against fire. Also before such a call for donations, an estimate of how much damage and what it will cost to rebuild should be done first. Maybe its Macrons way to try and reduce the massive debts his Government have been running up! Thankfully the damage is far less than thought earlier and many things saved before the fire made it dangerous to go in.

Notice the tenants, the Catholic Church, have been quiet. With the 10s of Billions of Euros it has it can maybe put in a few million. I feel sad that people are happy to throw money at such a project so quickly. Where is this money and help for the homeless and poor that number tens of thousands in Paris? As I put previously I find it sad that people seem to care more about an old building than they do about people.

Katie Hopkins knows who is to blame.

Apropos of nothing, I see that she is talking about an assault on Judeo-Christian culture.

I got told that such people don't say that.

And, god, there's a whole cesspit of conspiracy out there, isn't there?

Russia Today are pushing the same hints and dog whistles too.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

I believe the Russians have a fondness for western European cathedrals. They will be heartbroken at the loss of such a measurable spire.

Now I feel really guilty. I have visited Paris many times, and done the tourist bits, as well as other sporty bits, I have travelled the world quite extensively, I also have an interest in Medieval, and historic buildings, and churches & cathedrals, from Sagrada Familia, to Hajia Sophia, but I have never been near enough to Notre Dame to even take a photograph.

If French tycoons are willing to give hundreds of millions of euros, strings-free, are you saying Macron should turn them down and charge the taxpayer?

You seem very angry about all this.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

I think the donations are more a symbol of unity and patriotism more than anything , and a genuine determination  to help  renew the glory of the building .I’m sure the government would pay for the reconstruction if that’s what  it took , it’s so iconic and significant to the country . But you can’t stop money being offered and you’re sure as heck gonna take it . This is going to be a huge project

There is a suggestion - you would know more about this by virtue of actually being prepared to dirty yourself by learning foreign - that at least one of the generous donors is looking for a fairly substantial tax break in return.

I am asking "Is the Notre Dame insured against fire especially being owned by the French Government"? and if so why the need from Macron to ask for donations? Why is the EU, via Donald Task, asking foreign Governments to help donate? Sadly some Governments are happy to give Millions away to the restoration based on nothing, while Schools, Hospitals and Pensioners are told there is no money (Germany, Spain for example and the UK are looking to help as well). Seem the money is there depending on who or what the thing is. Does that make me angry? Yes.

Yes its up to people what they do with their money. But I find it sad/disappointing that people are willing to donate upto  hundreds of Millions of Euros to an old building and be proud of it and yet do seemingly little for the homeless and poor. As I have said before people seem more interested in and willing to donate to an old building than people. Thats not anger, just a sad and disappointing outlook on human life.

Is it owned by the French government?  I'd be really surprised at that given the enthusiasm of the French to separate church and state (or indeed any religion and the state).  I thought Notre Dame was a Roman Catholic cathedral?  In which case it will be owned by the Roman Catholic church surely?

Imagine if Grenfell had some really important examples of stained glass windows and gothic architecture instead of just poor people.

Apparently a law from 1905, all churches built before this time belong to the French State. https://catholicherald.co.uk/news/2019/04/16/5-things-to-know-about-the-cathedral-of-notre-dame-in-paris/

3. It’s not actually owned by the Archdiocese of Paris

Due to France’s laws regarding secularization, the French government owns all churches built before 1905, including Notre-Dame. The government lets the Archdiocese of Paris use the building for free, and will continue to do so in perpetuity. The Archdiocese of Paris is responsible for the upkeep of the church, as well as for paying employees.

Yes, imagine. Then it might have been on the news. As it is, no one has heard of it.

A charitable trust owns it I believe , hence the donations

Covered two posts above. The French government owns it.
