The competition the RFL have proposed is 2 8-team groups, aiming to be regionally divided, with a round robin, semis and a final.

To be fair, they didn't propose anything of the sort.

They gave an example. Which is not the same thing as a proposal.

Not surprised.

Given the link doesn't support what you've said.

It literally says:

"The website reported that the model was based on 16-teams with voluntary entry, lasting nine weeks, beginning on the weekend of October 3/4 and finishing on the weekend of November 28/29.

Clubs would be split into two geographical conferences, east and west, and clubs would play each team in their conference in a round-robin event over the course of seven weekends.

The top two teams from each conference would advance to the semi-finals, followed by a Grand Final the weekend after."

It then goes on to say the minimum number for this system of competition to work is 8 and explains how the prize money is proposed to be split.

If that isn't a proposal...

No "if" about it.

They're suggesting a competition, which may have anywhere between 8 and 25 clubs (the latter being revised downwards on an hourly basis) but here's what it might look like if there were 16 clubs.

That's far from proposing a competition for exactly 16 clubs.

Why are you arguing this? It is absolute complete nonsense. Give it a rest.

As this is the 125 year cup thread , what many are forgetting is that these are professional RL clubs ,their primary function is to play RL for the benefit of paying supporters , no paying supporters , no playing RL

Now that there is a possible vacancy next year in super league with Toronto ‘s possible expulsion, surely the time is ripe for a slimmed down championship of those clubs interested in claiming their place, I.e. Leigh, Fev,Widnes,Bradford,London, and Toulouse starting in October and playing each other home and away giving 10 matches with a grand final for the top 2 teams.

I think clubs are waiting to see if there is any give in fans being allowed in. That obviously being out of the RFL’s control.

Looking at today’s news that’s looking less    likely, in preparation for a further wave.

Who would be prepared to play behind closed doors will be the question?

Given the proposed prize breakdown the eventual winners would likely lose money even with (limited) crowds allowed, never mind those who went out at the group stage.

Exactly so what is the point. Can see S.L. clubs being in trouble next season because i do not think we will get unlimited crowds in stadiums until next July.At 20%/30% capacity Championship clubs will be operating on normal crowd levels with the exeption of Leigh and Bradford (playing at Dewsbury).

suspect reason some clubs are considering entering is to avoid paying refunds on season tickets. Give season ticket holders a few matches to attend and hope they wont ask for refunds on tickets. most diehard fans will probably write off their season tickets this year anyway but if clubs put on a tournament of some kind it might help with minority who would want a refund.

The ones not jumping the gun with two months to go..

They can't wait forever.

Though the fewer the clubs in the comp, the easier the fixture list will be to compile.

Computers not necessary.  Bag of a fag packet will be grand.
