Tim Sheens resigns as Widnes head coach

So now a new Coach will have to work with players that Sheens wanted and signed for next season, not the best scenario, but there will probably be plenty of takers.

That’s a real shame, I’d love to see Widnes back in SL and I thought they were moving in the right direction with him in charge and with some of the signings they’ve made. Not playing any games this year and next season being in doubt can’t have been an attractive proposition for him.

That's a curious statement on the Vikings website, in that there isn't any real insight as to why he has resigned.

If it had been directly related to Covid, perhaps family-related, that would have all seemed understandable and you'd think that would have featured in the statement.

I wonder if it’s a job that Paul Wellens might go for. He’s been at Saints for a few years now in off-field roles and a “proper” head coach job at a big club in Widnes could be a good stepping stone either to a Super League job or back to Super League for Widnes.

So Mr Sheen(s) simply vanish(ed) with giving fans any detol(s). So much for the pledge he made!

Dear god you must be bored! 😄

They have signed Connor Dwyer then?

A bit surprised as I thought he had packed in.

Matthew Shaw of TotalRL has written a story about it. Suggests Sheens was upset about his right-hand-man not being retained, and that the players were only informed via a group chat shortly before the news was announced.

Returned for their reserves last year I believe, now got a first team deal. Maybe the odd game last year reignited something for him.

Fair play to him.I was hoping he would have rejoined Swinton Lions

Dammit you beat me to it!

I hear Mick Cassidy may be available. Previous connections with Widnes and in the Shaun Wane model - could be useful for  the Chemics...
