Catalans are now top of Super League with Toulouse top of the Championship, that’s absolutely brilliant for French Rugby League. Has this ever happened before with both the Championship and Super League having overseas clubs sitting at the top of the table?

Super League benefits from having more strong competitive teams who are well funded and well supported. Catalans deliver that, they undoubtedly add value to the SL comp. They have widened both the pla

I wont use this great news to repeat that Toulouse being made to play in a part time league is crazy and the 2 french clubs should be locked into SL but merely say well done to both.

I wonder if this has been picked up by the French media?

This is unprecedented in the history of rugby league.

Also note that 10 of the Toulouse 17 playing  today were French.

I wonder if the RFL management can grasp the fact and its implications.

What are the implications for the RFL?

That would seem like a horrendous result for the RFL.

They’re not made to play in a part time league, there’s promotion and relegation to/from super league.

Maybe it will be too difficult explaining how a team with 7 wins is above a team with 8.

Was a genuine shame the scheduled Toulouse v Fev game did not happen. Would have been an absolute cracker.

I also thought I read somewhere that Catalans had 9 home-grown players playing for them at Leigh yesterday.

Avignon & Villenueve have stated intent in the recent past.

How recent? I remember Villeneuve did but must be 15+ years ago? I’d like to see it, but not to the detriment of Elite 1.

Primarily, I would imagine, because of the pandemic which you may have noticed is going on and is hampering cross channel travel.

Avignon would e a good choice. It is a beautiful town located in a large beautiful region of southeastern France which is away from the existing heartland of the Toulouse-Perpignan southwest.

Villeneuve is a small town in the southwest which will add little to the existing rugby league fan base in France. Paris or Lyon would be much better choices than Villeneuve.

Like I said,  I wont repeat my point.  Here's hoping Toulouse are in SL with Catalan next season.

Indeed , if they win the right by winning the GF , best of luck to them

French teams are mentally feeble. Catalans might finish 4th and have a regulation defeat in the playoffs. Toulouse should realistically win the championship at a canter. They’ll lose in the playoffs.
