South Africa seem to be the dark horse coming in and are playing Australia today.

The Proteas got off to a cracking start with De Kock having his usual fine knock.

You'd have to say though that Australia have fought back well to contain them at 254-3 after 42 overs.

Finely poised now depending upon what South Africa do at the end of their innings.

No reason to panic but we should think about whose job it is to hold the innings together in the middle of the order, because it is in overs 15-40 where the game is won and lost and where the top sides' spinners can really strangle you.

Fine when we already have 300+ on the board, but if you are 4 down after 12 overs you will need someone to stay around.

Having said this, it seems to be a problem for lots of teams in this world cup. They can all get to 100/1 or 150/2, but end up 180/5 and making a more modest total than appeared to be within reach. The middle order seem to come in and be unsure whether to play like it's a T20 game or bat out the overs, and end up doing neither.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

England losing to the Afghans? Disgraceful!

You wouldn't see, say, the mighty South Africa getting spanked by some minnow team, would you?

Oh... 😮

Truly bizarre squad selection from England to take Willey, Curran and Topley who are all basically meant to be doing the same role. Not sure how many lives Woakes will get either. Atkinson and Willey must be in contention to come in. And whoever thought that we'd replace Liam Plunkett with Sam Curran as a middle overs specialist needs to be barred from any cricket selection role.

Just having my own personal monologue on this, but NZ have been the first side to really get the hang of this today. Got into a tricky spot on a tough wicket, but (with a bit of help from poor fielding) dug out a competitive score with patience and good running between the wickets.

Your point still broadly stands. Not sure any player in this World Cup will have had even a dozen non-international 50 over matches since the last World Cup to get used to/stay in tune with the tempo of the format.

There's very limited evidence that England are a good side. Willey and Wood have been dreadful in this innings, just wildly flinging it anywhere.

England going to get a hiding here I think which will almost certainly finish any chances off.

Mark Wood had a good go, which sort of masks the overall performance.

England 170 all out (Topley unable to bat) chasing 399.

Chickens coming home to roost,, Although I had forebodings posted on the forum pre-tournament, the actual England performances, with the exception of the Bangladesh game, have been wat worse thatn I expected.

As it stands a last 4 of India, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Now when the inquest starts, perhaps someone not taking SKY money might just look at the schedule and the warped prioritiers of English Cricket for while an Indian win gurantees the survival of 50 over cricket, which is also the long form game played by the associate members and the porimary form of the women's game. The elephant in the room is first class / Test cricket which is increasingly marginalised.

When the Bazball effect wears off and England's Test side declines with a side filled with players who no longer play much redball cricket, wither the next TV contract, which after all contrary to agitprop is based upon the success of the national side not the 💯 with the latest scrambled 4 year deal and reprtesents a 20% real; term cut in income by year 4 (Source Kent CCC annual Report).
