RFL / NFL Collaboration

Recommended Posts

Americans love contact sports and they have a gap in the NFL season that fits in well with the English RL season, so each NFL franchise should buy a rugby league club and it would be shown extensively on US tv. Games would have to be played very late at night in the UK to reach their evening tv audience but the income would be phenomenal.

Some clubs would have a natural home, eg Dewsbury / LA Rams, Huddersfield / New York Giants, Widnes / Minnesota Vikings etc, while others would just need a tweak such as the Castleford / Cincinnati Bengals and St Helens / New Orleans Saints.  Some teams would need complete name changes but there would be fabulous marketing opportunities such as the Newcastle Browns.

What do you think?

Boston Celtics could buy Dewsbury Celtic and there'd be a great rivalry then with LA 😉

Actually Boston Celtics are basketball obviously, don't know when they're season ends but no reason why they shouldn't pump 10s of millions of pounds into the Dewsbury outfit

Jacksonville Leopards.

I think you may have the nucleus of a good idea. How late at night do you envisage the kick-off times being?

They’d have to kick off around midnight. That said on Saturday and Sunday some could be earlier as they could be screened at lunchtime on the west coast.

I also missed the Sheffield / Phili Eagles and the Swinton / Detroit Lions.

I think you need to work on this. You've got superten coming back every four weeks and getting dozens of forum members reacting as if they are serious with serious ideas. Learn from them. They are a master at playing this forum like a fiddle.

You've blown too many great gags here. The Newcastle/Cleveland Browns is a whole topic in its own right.

Kind of on topic is something I've always suggested, there should always be a Sunday evening Super League match on Sky. The average Sunday sees the Premier League finish at 6:30 and then there's nothing.

NFL fills the gap for a few months, but there's not a huge amount of crossover for the NFL & SL seasons. I think it would do well with ratings, I've certainly ended up watching NFL because there is nothing else on.

Deadly serious, I’ve already written to the Glazers about it (they’re interested in the Cornish Buccaneers).

Jacksonville might want to take Keighley on as well as Cas, and Whitehaven could pair up with the Browns as they have a rare brown kit.

Are you both wanting to change Newcastle Thunder's name or are union clubs being included too?

Great point. Surprised at Wellsy to be honest, he will be disappointed with him self, hes usually not far off with most of his posts.

As for the other one, well hes a Blue Sox fan so its hardly a shock when he misses the point of the whole thread.

Maybe we could convince some of the American teams to change their names.🥴

Stretching my memory but I think when Super League first started it had the Sunday evening slot.
