I agree that we need other opposition, I don't agree that we could have built Home Natins into these. That's not to say we shouldn't play more games against lower ranked nations (we should stage as many internationals is as reasonable).

But we have tried to build up other opposition, there is a reason these nations have played as many games as they have, and it ain't because the Aussies have driven it.

We have tried and failed and now we reap the rewards.

If we had been successful we wouldn't be begging 2nd tier nations to come play us or playing the exiles 10 years after we decided that wasn't working.

It would appear the Aussies current approach is right then.

Come on now. We don't need to trash absolutely everything just because things aren't done exactly to our own personal preference.

Why didn't you mention that two weeks after that Sydney game we played in front of 44k in Brisbane?

There's no personal preference aspect to it. I'd love us to have a vibrant RL touring scene like RU does. We simply don’t right now.

I'm still flabbergasted that this isn't sold out... (and headlingly next week). This has the potential to be a really fast paced exciting game!

Any idea who that sponsor is on the back of England's shirts? Egg?

Never seen it mentioned and it seems to be one of those random ones that appear in the week of the match.

Are your eyes painted on? Empty seats every time you can see the crowd.

Looks and sounds terrible.

15k. Rubbish.

Eyes painted on really?

It's a 25k stadium. Not sure what sort of a crowd you expect v Samoa. It looks far better than the Tonga games last year and far better than it was looking good last week.

I want our Internationals to be sold out. Against that want, it looks and perhaps more importantly, sounds absolutely rubbish.

Tonga last year was also rubbish.

Far better than it was looking last week... sigh. We're now just so apathetic. How the governing bodies treat these players is an absolute disgrace.

We all want internationals to be sold out. That is far from the reality of where we are.

Did you go? Love rl fans who moan about attendance from In front of a tv!

15,137 was a solid pass for me all things considered. It came across on TV okay and was far from the disaster that was being talked about.

Good game and a reasonable attendance. Hopefully some decent viewing figures as well. Sets it up well for next week which will hopefully be close to a sell out.

I think it's telling that the expectations have gone so low. Sounds like your 'solid pass' verdict is mainly based on relief. How can it be acceptable that a ground is 30% empty for an international game between two of the top.4 nations in the world?

It's 2k more than the Australia v NZ Pacific Championship final last season. Let's have some perspective here.

And I know cross-sport comparisons can be unfair but Bradford v Doncaster in the 4th tier of English football got over 18,000 yesterday.

As is the case 99.9% of the time comparisons to football are utterly pointless.

33 years ago, in the halcyon days of the 90s, we got 5.2k in Leeds for top 4 internationals.

I'd personally describe 15.1k as the bare minimum for acceptability, but it's disappointing. It looked and sounded far better on TV than Saints even though that ground was fuller last year, but it felt a bigger event being held at the DW.

Hopefully 18-20k at Leeds and that's a small but not insignificant uplift on last year.

15,000 with tickets being given away free with Wigan memberships?

Nah. That is properly poor.

Yes, but that was played in Hamilton NZ. Compare its population in catchment and RL history with Wigan's...
